Ibanez's RG2550Z or Yngwie's Fender Stratocaster?

I'm looking to get a new guitar and narrowed down to these two models. However I just can't seem to make up my mind. So I'm posting here to seek some opinions.

What I like about Ibanez's RG2550Z:
24 frets
wizard neck
the tremolo system
5 way pick up

What I like about Yngwie's Fender Stratocaster:
it's a strats, i like strats and the color is one if not my fav color
the scalloped neck looks fun lol
maple neck

The kind of songs I play and would like to learn to play:
classic rock
melodic/upbeat/happy songs? (eg cliffs of dover, i'm alright)
steve vai, gnr, led zep, hendrix
tone wise which would be a better choice for the above mentioned songs?

Thanks for reading!

imo, its easier to get the chuga chuga with a single coil as opposed to getting the twang with a humbucker.
however, the scalloped frets might take some getting used to but if you like it why not?
and some might say the h-s-h is more versatile than a s-s-s but i think the sc in the ibby won't do and justice for sc's =x
heard my friend's h-s-h ibby and the sc didn't sound very good.

my vote's for the malmsteen strat.

try them first. no matter how cool it sounds to have a scalloped fretboard, it might not be ur cup of tea. its not something that anyone can simply get used to overnight.

my take? go try both of them out and see which suits u better..

I suppose with your budget, you can buy a whole lot of other guitars which might suit your needs. take a walk around peninsular plaza, you'd be spoilt for choices. from 21 to 24 frets and from scallop to no scallop, plenty of options.

Ibanez RG2550 for me ;) As your shortlisted guitars are not cheap, try them before deciding on which one to get.

im assuming you like both guitars equally,

i'd go for the Malmsteen strat, its pretty unusual.
RGs are everryywherrrrre

similar dilemma for me if i were in ur shoes
:D

i'd lean abit more to the RG's versatility
thou malmsteen's strat is like a holy grail for me...the scallops might need a little time to get used to.

IMO...its better to try out both guitars yourself.Things you need to ask yourself...have you ever played a scalloped neck before?Ever tried playing guitar thats fitted with a single coil HS-3?You'd be surprised....Why?
I used to play a lot of humbucker fitted guitars and i have quite a number of Ibanez so when i bought and played the YJM strat it kinda what i didnt expect....it took me quite sometime to get into the scalloped neck and the Alnico 5 HS-3....plus i need to make tweaks to my set-up for the strat.Anyway i'm getting the hang of it now and its great...
So go and try it out....you'll not regret and its worth the trip.

Good luck with your purchase!!:)

I can't give you an unbiased opinion cos i dun like floyd rose...But what I can say is that, you dun need time to get used to for playing on scalloped neck. I owned a Fender Yngwie before. The neck plays like butter. You can pick up and feels comfortable with it right away, provided u r a strat player at the first place.

Mine was the CIJ one and to me it was the ultimate strat(I owned 2 MIA, traditional and standard before). My only problems with it is the other way around, it's difficult for me to play on my other guitars after I play on the YJM...And I always need a backup guitar. So I thought of buying another YJM but I feel weird to own 2 same guitars. So end up I sold it off and I move to humbucker guitars.

So...+1 to YJM :D

hey guys, thanks for all the great comments and opinions!

after pondering or rather brooding over it for awhile, i... still can't decide! haha... anyway i'll be heading down to swee lee to try both out in a couple of days. anyway are the prices on swee lee's website all before discount? was wondering why don't they just put the price they want to sell it at, so consumers don't have to call to bug them for the "discounted" price haha.

anyway both are really great choices that i simply can't make up my mind.

plus a third option just came into my mind, i was thinking maybe i could get a 2nd hand RG550 for half the price of a RG2550Z IF i can find it haha. basically a RG2550Z with a maple fretboard right? (like so hard to find a seller :???:). then save up to get a malmsteen's strat if i still fancy it after a year or two.

what do you guys think?

a REAL RG550 is good stuff....get that if you want an excellent giggable axe.

I would rather get a S5470 prestige(24 fret s-series) over any of the current production RG prestiges...unless its a J-craft.

yjm guitars are good if you have other 24 frets guitar...its collector signature series better value than RG prestige...because there are too many rg models and the resale value is a bit low compare to fenders...and remember yjm fenders only 21 frets....those lesser frets can mean a lot in the future playing and depends on music you mostly play....to me yjm is best to keep and playing at home but ibanez 24 frets are more practical for playing gig or jamming...and those single coils ih yjm guitars are a bit weaker compare to normal fenders strat....and malmsteen is damn good being able to shred fast smoothly with weak single coil guitar
