Ibanez Soundgear?

Im looking to get a bass sometime soon and was wondering which soundgear model would best suit my preferences.

1) Slim neck
2) Decent body wood (i.e. not agathis)
3) Active electronics

The SR500BM model seems to fit the bill, but I was wondering how much it would cost.

why is agathis not a decent wood?

agathis is in the mahogany family, it has similar, warm midrange response & impressive sustain. too bad it's the favoured wood for the entry level guitars/ basses...

the only 'bad' wood for guitars: plywood.

em... not my thread this one... but i'll answer anyway

the GSR is strictly entry-level. it has an in-between tone, not too good, not too bad either. i wouldn't buy one & swap pickups, it's just not worth it. however, if you wish for a decent bass about the $500 mark, the GSR is a worthy bass to acquire. it's also much lighter (basswood) than the SR models, so the bottom end isn't as thumping as you'd like it to be.

ok, we better stop this hijack... 8)

haha ok ok ... hmmz thanks ... wads the difference between a soundgear and a GSR ?

GSR is basically Gio Sound Gear. The entry level of Ibanez models are termed Gio models... sub, did I get this correct?

spot on!!

the Gios aren't high end, it's strictly entry-level. all models with a 'G' prefix are from the Gio range- GRX/ GAX/ GRG etc...
