HI!! any1 know anything abot the ibanez s series ive seen it and i really love it... can anyone pls lyk give opinions pls? wads the price? isit good? OPINIOns!! pls? thanks!

i'm a big fan of the S-series but i've refrained from buying the current models which are equipped with the ZR vibrato as it added too much weight to the overall guitar mass. the ZR, if you read elsewhere, is the epitome of tuning stability as it incorporates a trem-setter as part of its feature.

on a personal note, try one in the stores, if it suits your taste & your needs, you are better off woning one. the S4XX are Korean (approx $900), while the Prestige range are Jap units (>$1K).

there are also 2 other incarnations of the S-series:

1.SA series (the Andy Timmons sig model is based on this one)
the SA differs from the S because its back is flat as oppossed to the dual arched design of the latter.

2.SZ series (the upcoming Marty Friedman sig model has this as a working design).
the SZ only retains the outline of the S, has a thicker body, neck-thru inception & 3-a-side machine head config unlike the 6-in-a-row of the S-model.

i'm of the opinion that the S-series lost its authority after the departure of its fusion ambassador, Frank Gambale (now with Yamaha).

Yo,
i love my s series man. however, its a S540 made in japan in the early 90s. these are no longer in production, been replaced with the prestige as part of a marketing move.

well its v slim, v light, but its made of mahogany for the tone n sustain. its v versatile, pple used it for metal to jazz. No kidding

sadly, i heard the new ones r rather disappointing. Esp the korean ones. If ur looking at the s370, forget it. At least the S470 is a much better buy.

1 thing to note is the neck. i got one that has a crack on my custom wizard neck. its becuz the neck is too thin, n when u lock the tunings, it mite cause a hairline crack.

also u mite dislike the feel of the neck. its v thin yet broad. Its not like a lp neck or ur fenders with gd feel to it. The wizard neck is made for shredders like most ibanez. it takes a little while to get used to it, like me.

however, change the pu on the ibanez.

if u looking to get the prestige s, i wld rather u get the js1000 model. it has a more comfortable neck, n unique pu setting. the wood is basswood so the tone is dif.

with my S540, i get a v solid tone. i was using a lp b4, n when i got this baby, my lp became redundant. it cabn get the tone of a lp and weighs so much lighter!!! Brilliant engineering from ibanez.

get sounds from the 2nd n 4th position of the pu too.

solid bass from the s series too

the S540 is an under-rated guitar in my books. i own one equipped with Duncan pickups & it's my fav Ibanez. the slim Super Wizard neck was conceived with acceleration in mind but it's personal preference at the end of the day, i can shred as well on my SZ320.

weiht: did you get yours used/ off the shelf? the crack incident you related sounds like it's a victim of a fall as oppossed to nut lock over-tightening...
