Hi there,

Any Ibanez or Fender Acoustic-Elelctric Guitar user here? I w'ld like to grab a piece for Live...price around $300-400. Music Type - Pop Rock.

thanks for your recommendation!!

For the price, i think you can forget Fender, i personally feel there are better guitars out there for the price. Ibanez has a few good pieces, you can go check them out at Swee Lee. Alternatively, drop by Luthermusic at Peninsula 2nd floor and ask them about this, state your preferences tonewise and shapewise, they'll be able to find you a piece that suits your taste and budget.

Thanks bro. appreciate!
BTW, what's the your suggestion model of the Guitar that on your mind? Mind to give one or two for reference?

I personally wouldn't recommend Ibanez electro-acoustics / acoustics. Most of those I tried don't sound good, and the build quality seems to be going down.

What about checking out Custom Acoustic? It's a brand brought in by City Music. One of the most value-for-money brands available here, they offer very nice features for the money. You can easily get a nice electro-acoustic for your budget or less.

Agreed with Eug, their top-of-the-line model has solid Engelmann spruce top, solid rosewood back and sides, ebony fretboard, gold hardware, all at around 500 if i'm not wrong. I tried it, it was nice but unfortunately not to my taste. Oh yes it comes with a pickup. I believe Luther has a Cort MR700NS or something like that there that's going for around 450, solid spruce top, can't rmb back and sides. That one sounds good for the price.

Hey ES,

Yes, i heard bout that--Custom Acoustic. Last time they used Shadow Preamp, it was bad...the sound...Yiak!!! but now, replace by Fishman seemsed. Though i don't like Fishman but will better than Shadow i think!!! Yes, will try out.

Thanks lemonade!

wow...really that bad?! :o
What bout Takamine lower end? what do you think?like D & G series? i think price around 500

So, nothing common branded Acoustic-Electric recommended? like in US, we c'ld not find Custum Acoustic...too bad

The G series is going for over 500, i'm actually very interested in the EG5303SC, that's an amazing piece Luther has at his shop but its going for 725. I highly recommend the Custom Acoustic, its an insane price for all-solid, ROSEWOOD and EBONY all in 1. And the Cort i mentioned is laminate back and sides. Maestro you can try, but to me they're an acquired taste.

Dude, Ibanez acoustics are not really known to be very good for that amount of money you're spending, never a fan of it as well. As what the dudes above have mentioned, Custom Acoustics come with a Fishman preamp, and at a very attractive price as well, definitely worth considering. And its -->FULL-SOLID <----

Lower end Takamines which you mentioned, the D series, can be pretty good as well, however you would need to have the time and patience to search for a good one, the G series which are more well-received by people are over your budget. But of course, don't let the Made in China label affect your judgement when playing the D series.

May i also suggest Cort and Finas as well, don't overlook them. Brands like Maestro do not provide pickups with the guitar and you need to fork out around $200 for their B-bands. Quality is assured, but i guess its out of your budget as well.

As for some of the Fender acoustics that i tried at sweelee katong, most of them were pretty bright, which were not to my liking heh, but to each his own!

Good luck dude:)

Custom Acoustics are a in-house brand by City Music.
For the price, i'd have to say go for Custom as well, never tested one, but for a full solid top + preamp, it looks good :). The problem with branded acoustic guitars is you pay so much for the brand :)

Like Groovy said, cort acoustics aren't bad aswell :) Tested one, real cheap with a Cort designed preamp. it wasn't too bad, depending on what sound you prefer :)

Hi thanks all...

Alright, will check out the Custom Acoustic soon, haaaa...

BTW, which model did you recommended? and how's the price around?

Since CA and Cort and Takamine are out... I have one last to add. Samick.
I have never heard anything mentioned about it, but it's definitely a good budget guitar.
Check the prices out at Davis. I have a Samick semi-hollow, and, unlike certain Epi Casinos and Dots, the F holes were well finished. The neck was smooth and fantastic. Grover tuners! I'd highly recommend it, their guitars and QC is good.

actually, i'm not sure if you can find this in Singapore, but theres this brand called Farida, it's a REAL GOOD bang for buck guitars :). It's made in China btw

Gosh, nobody recommends Walden guitars...

One of it you should try is Walden guitars. Well I could say the workmanship is good, and its priced is ranging from $200 to $800 (based on the salesman). There are many shapes you can choose from. There's one comes with solid spruce top, dreadnaught with cutaway and a pickup (Fishman i believe...) goes from $400+/-.

Another brand you should try is Crafter guitars. Workmanship is great. I've played one at ranking sports and the guitar resonated very well. They are price around $300+ onwards to $600+ I believe. It also comes with at least a solid top and pickup on certain models..

U can find both brands at Music Theme or Ranking Sports. Just remember to get the guitar to set up if you plan to buy because in stock condition, the action might be high...

The good thing about brands like Cort, Crafter, Walden, Custom Acoustic and Jack and Danny is that they are less well-known, so you pay less for the branding. That means, they are cheaper, and also offer better specifications.

Back in the old days, there were so few brands available and they were the big names we always think about today. Nowadays, with these lesser-known brands coming up, you don't need to pay a lot to get a good guitar. These are good times for those who don't have a lot of money to spend, and it might even get better. :)

Ah-ha! Someone mentioned Samick! Now's my turn to say something about that, considering that my first five years plus of playing the acoustic guitar was with a Samick. It isn't a Greg Bennett. It was before Samick and Greg Bennett collaborated.

My old Samick is all-laminated NATO wood, finished in satin black. The model no. is LW-015/BK. I still have it, though it's been badly damaged and cannot be tuned to standard anymore. I must say that it's solid in terms of quality and sound-wise, it's incredible. I've had people telling me that it sounds like solid wood.

Greg Bennett models offer better specifications (including solid wood, branded pickups, Grover tuners, etc) than pre-collaboration Samicks, and are only slightly more expensive. They're still astonishingly affordable instruments, so do try some of them out, too. :)

Hi there!

I've had cort, ibanex and takamine b4. My advice is dun take Ibanez. The quality is really lousy. I had 2 ibanez acoustics and the wood from the bridge area, came out when i was playing. So personally for me, i won't take Ibanez.

Takamine D series is a gd choice cos the action is really damn comfortable but the sound is really thin and bright so try it b4 u buy.

Cort is really reliable lasted me 5yrs and still going. The sound is bright though. Again, try it b4 buying.

My latest equip is Ovation. The sound is warm and nice just that the body is a bit eh bulky. Thus not many a fan of it.

So yea, try it, if u like the sound, the feel, the touch, then buy it then.

Cheers. Peace! :)

I visited Ranking Sports and Music today and saw the Waldens. Very impressive tone and craftsmanship for the money. +1 to edyeo123's suggestion.
