Ibanez MTM2BK Fixed Edge Trem

The fixed edge trem's pivoting screw came off while i was playing yesterday. At first i thought i broke some strings...till i saw some wood chippings from the trem cavity. Upon closer inspection, this is what i saw....

I bought this guitar from Sweelee in January this year. I've changed the strings to a 0.10 gauge - standard E tuning in February (as i find the factory set 0.11 strings, B-C# tuning is abit taxing for my fingers and trem). Other than changing of strings, i did not modify any parts of the guitar. I will have it sent to Sweelee for repairs and will update you guys on it. Totally baffled man! :roll:

did you mess with this screw previously?

from the mere description, it seems that the screw cavity has experienced some cross-threading. tell us swee lee's diagnosis.

As said, i did not meddle with anything other than changing of strings. Will let you know on Swee Lee's diagnosis. Aye....

Collected my MTM2BK yesterday. No explanation given as why the screw came off...could be an isolated case of faulty guitar from the factory? :roll:

Anyway...had the pivoting screw re-thread and super glued to the body. Hope it works.

my take on this would be that over at the factory, the screw was removed repeatedly hence causing thread wear. a simple remedy for this would be to fill the cavity up with wood filler then insert the screw. but since it's under warranty... 8)

good to know it's ok now.

Yeah...good thing it's still under warranty. In the meantime, i'll keep a lookout if it'll affect the tuning.

pardo me guys, but this is what i think. i also hv an MTM2Bk although it never occur to me, maybe not yet, sumhow it all got to do with the workmanship n also the wood. but than again, it is still an awesome axe. what u can do if it happen again, u can always fix it with a wood filler

I wouldn't want to think just because it's made in Indonesia, they will compromise on the quality or workmanship. I've search the net for similar case and found none. So this might be an isolated case of a faulty guitar.

If it were to happen again, most probably i'll get it change to a new one....or exchange it with another model (if it's still under warranty) 8)

don't think it's a production oversight, just a lack of effective threading.
