Its a JEM budget model but its MIJ and has a maple fretboard!

Any thoughts on this?

It seems like its just a JEM version of the RG1550M but i would still go for a RG1550M. Not much of a Vai fan so nay for me.

Nonetheless, an excellent addition to the maple-fingerboard RGs:D

According to the Ibanez website its US$ 1999 list versus the JEM7V's list of US$3466.65. I do think a prestige RG would be better value...

Agreed with you bro. RG1550M is better for your money, the 09 models (PHANTOM BLUE & POISONED PUMPKIN) have edge pro and the 2010 model (WHITE PLASTER) have Edge Zero bridge equipped with Zero Point System 3.

1. Both Jem 505 and RG1550M is MIJ
2. Both have same pickups
3. Both have dot inlays

But why get a Jem 505 when it costs more than a RG1550M  Unless you're a fan of Steve Vai :D

^ I dunno some people will prefer the Original Edge. Kinda depends on the player. This is supposed to be a 'budget' JEM (compare with the JEM7's price) with a good body, neck and bridge for you to mod i guess...

Overall, its a RG1550M + monkey grip + lion's claw + edge bridge + 6105 frets

does it justify a 600 dollar price difference? Up to the buyer.

..., and I'm guessing, Mr. Vai must get his cut (royalties).

LoL, the original Ibanez Edge have spring retainer on the tremolo block and a pop-in arm and tuning stability is comparable to the Original Floyd Rose, that's why people prefer them.

Edge Zero with ZP3 should give better tuning stability compare to Original Edge.

Jem 505 has a jem neck profile while the 1550/1570 has the prestige neck profile. Yes, it's 1mm neck diff, but trust me, u can feel the diff if you play both side by side. No, the Wizard II doesnt feel like a Jem neck just because they have the same thickness.

ever wondered why Ibanez Jems and JSs stuck with Edge Pro despite the introduction of a more stable Edge Zero bridge?

It was only until the reintroduction of the Original Edge this year that the Jems and JSs are fitted with the it.

IMHO, try both bridges to know the difference.

One thing that I like is that the Jem505 has a nice pearloid pickguard haha.

Oh btw, Ibanez still has LACs.

But LA doesn't do orders for non-endorsers right?

I read on Ibanez Rules that they brought the Edge back because that is what Joe Satriani and Steve Vai typically use on their stage guitars.

So it makes sense for the sig guitar to use the hardware that the endorser actually uses.

Prestige? I rather get a J-custom. :D

I'm not really a big fan of sig guitars so, if i ever acquire a huge stack of cash than I'll get something like this. Price wise, you can get it at a comparable price to a JEM.
