hey .. my cousin wana pick up guitar .. he was thinking of buying the ibanez grg270 which the sweelee sales man had offered him.. the salesman quoted $414 for the ibanez package .. is it worth it? anyway his budget is about $500..in addition the salesman told him that in that package u can swap the grg270 for other GIO series guitars.. i have a fren who is currently using the grg170 .. which is better? Or should he go for other brands like ltd? pls give some comments :D thanks

we.. i told him to save up more.. but he says that he plans to get a cheap but good guitar 1st.. den save up for a better 1 in future :D thats what im doing now :) no point getting an expensive guitar if he cant play well

if it's within your means, getting a mid-priced ($700+/-) guitar as a starter is encouraged. the better feel/ tone will inspire you to play better/ focus on learning.

the GRG270 has decent feel/ tone but it features a floating vibrato bridge which is a hassle when it comes to string-changing (one should focus on playing when staring out, not be bothered by string replacement mechanics, yes?). the particular model on the GRG270 is the annoying ILT1 make which has reliability issues when it comes to tuning stability. i would suggest you steer clear from this one unless the GRG270 in whole has a personal appeal which is irresistable...?

if you intend to stay in the Ibanez GIO camp, i'd recommend any of the following 3 models as they are impressive in terms of tone/ playability/ construction (in this price bracket, of course):

*GRG121
*GAX70
*GSZ120

thanks sub :D btw do u know how much is the GSZ120 and which is the best gio series guitar? haha

not too sure about the price but it won't exceed $400 if memory serves me right...

there's no 'best GIO', the ones you play & like are the ones to get.

Save up a bit more and get an rg321. It has fixed bridge and so less hassle for string-changing. Also better pickups.

The main bad thing about Gio series is that the pickups are not good.

Never get starter packs. The amp and cables suck, no matter what brand of starter pack.

lol im using the rg321mh :D .. aiya.. my cuz just need a guitar for practice ma.. haha thanks for ur help.. he may be getting the cheap squire tele cali series..

For teles that are not by Fender... Timbre does them very well.

For that price, better to get a Timbre tele copy. I tried Timbre before and they honestly surprised me lots. Really nice sound, awesome craftsmanship. My top choice for singlecoil guitars. Better deal than Squier since they're cheaper too.

Apparently some Squier pieces have reliability and craftsmanship issues.

Actually the rg321's royal blue finish is very nice but I don't like the weathered black finish... The grg121 on the other hand, has a very nice finish.

But like all Gios, must upgrade the pickups if you wanna use a Gio as your performance guitar.

But how does the grg121 pickups compare with those on the other Gios?

yeah.. just got my first floyd guitar... getting pissed over the damn intonation. heh.. how about yamaha pacificas? their reliable

the GRG121 default humbuckers are more appropriate for high gain applications. for cleans, they are at most, acceptable. however, if i were to acquire these guitar, the pickups aren't too repulsive to make do with until further upgrades (unlike some other GIO models...).
