i own an AT300 currently and i must say it's the most lovely guitar i have ever played because of it's neck and clean tone. but there's a problem. i miss my whammy bar times (random wanking), the single coil neck tone sounds too thin when in distort.

should i sell this away and get a new guitar?

i'm looking at the S2170FB cause of the ZR bridge, looks and H-S-H cofiguration.
but neck wise, i feel more comfortable with the AT300.

WHAT SHOULD I DO??!

*please help.

Get my Demeter midboost and thicken it up!

Ok, serious. If you like the neck profile, you should keep it. you can always change the electronics, but you can't change the feel of a guitar. Not unless you start tearing up the guitar and replacing stuff... which kinda defeats the purpose.

The AT has a tremolo also, no? Just use that.

Cheers
Raymond

Well, you probably should have gone for the trem you wanted. I don't find the tremolo a biggie, you might though. I don't think you should try and replace the bridge on the AT300 either - you spoil the value and I do think you'd be better off getting a similar guitar with your specifications.

Actually you know what - rereading your last post, a Demeter midboost might work out for you. I'll PM you.

Hmmmm.... note, if the AT300's bridge is dive only, changing it wouldn't make any difference: you still wouldn't be able to raise the pitch. Its not a trem issue or construction flaw, its because the body was cut to allow dive only. Thats if i got it correct lah. Haha...

And yeah, I feel you about the single coils.

I thought HSS was THE way to go, and yeah, the neck single sounded awefully sweet on the 24th fret harmonic sweet spot, but its thinner than a humbucker, and its really a one trick pony, no point splitting or runing it in parallel wiring. I'm going back to H-H for my personal favourite pup config.

You can sell off the AT300 and purchase that Saber. Its a good guitar too that S, the ZR trem will give you a lot of fun whammying.

Do note, you would prob have to exchange the pups on the Saber.

If a guitar doesn't feel right, I wouldn't keep it. Just sell if off and get something else.

whatever's your decision, do keep your AT300...

the ZR vibrato system has its merits but i'm not a fan (despite being an S-series enthusiast). tell us why you're not into the Edge Pro.

i think i'll be heading down to swee lee and test that S today. and see whether my hands like lit. hopefully they allow me to play with the bridge..

and subversion, is not that i'm limiting myself to the ZR bridge but the ZR has pros and i love the shape of the S series.

i love the S too, was excited about the ZR vibrato until i pick up the guitar- find the weight unacceptable. i'm into the SA model these days...

The ZR trem feels a little too... "loose" for my taste. But i'm schooled on the old Ibanez Edge trem so... yeah.

One thing, which would NOT matter if you are getting this year's prestiege Sabers, do note, there are 2 versions of ZR Trems.

Earlier version requires the use of an allen key to adjust spring tension.

Later/current versions have a thumb wheel.

Earlier version, prone to breaking.

thanks for the advice there shredcow,

i've gone to sweelee and checked out that guitar, Ryan's been nice so far and i like the guitar overall. guess i'm gonna get the S when i sell my AT300 then..

can't bear to part with it though..

Ooo... just imagine, that Saber will sound better with better voiced pups in there. 8)

Actually, between the AT and S, which neck profiles do you prefer?

the AT's neck feels better for my fingers. but i grew up on an RG so the neck on the S felt good but not as comfy as the AT

yea i'd probably change the p-ups. breeds maybe. or the common paf pro and tonezones.

Breeds rock, but the breed neck in the Saber, tends to mud out on the lower notes. Might be what you like.

Tonezones are good, in the bridge, give a nice thickness, but that mid hump that goes "awwww"? Its nigh unbearable for me. In the neck, your guitar sounds like an Les Paul. No defination but thick and fat ya?

Something different, www.has-sound.com The Viper and Helix are what I use. I never changed pups for the past what, 1/2 year? Beats all the dimarzios I've tried.

whoa, thanks for the advice you've given me so far man.

yea i'll check out the p-ups at the site. and i see you on the comments section haha! thanks again! =)

I use a Saber too .... been thru a ton of dimarzios, some for sake of better tone, many for experimentation.

But the HAS pups have stopped me dead.

the AT neck has a rounder, slightly thicker rear profile, quite an adaptation of a Strat- that's what Timmon specified.

I dunno if Andy even plays it......but Andy smokes on the new album and the last couple of albums.

If he's really using it then buy a OD pedal cause the guitar and pups are fine, it's the rest of yur gear that needs changing.

Ever consider taking the neck of yur AT and putting it on some floating trem RG or S body??? The bolts definately line up on all AANJ necks but I can't say if all the neck pockets are the same.
