I need help choosing a guitar

Hey there,

i'm kinda confused over the quality of this 3 sub brands, ESP, LTD, Edwards.

in terms of workmanship and tone which one would u grade from 1 to 3.
and having a budget of 1k, i would like to have a LP shaped guitar with, preferably 24 frets. wat would u guys recommend, which particular model and why?...

true enuff i've always stood by, "feel it yourself, and it'll call u, not the other way around"... but the thing is... my gf is actually buying it for me... and she "doesn't" want me to "open" my present... but instead give her a xmas list... so i really need ur HELP on this...

so i'll give u a lil feedback of wat i've been playing.... i've been using an Ibanez RG for many years already... and always wanted a gibby LP without the PHAT neck.... a gd fren of mine recommended an esp eclipse cuz the neck is slightly thinner and so is the body.... as such... the reason for choosing the 3 brands above... so guys... i need something that is value for money, that i probably get accustomed to easily.

if u can reason this out.... I THNK U VERY VERY VERY much....

cheers,
khaos fred

Ltd to ESP is like Epiphone to Gibby. They're actually the same brand but Ltd is like, the lower end but more affordable stuffs. Wow you're so lucky haha...I've never had christmas presents before...

ESP over budget dun u think ya?

hi guys, i dunno whether an ESP will be around the budget.... remember... its SGD$1k.... so far i haven't seen an ESP which is of that price...

about 24 fret LP... well, the EC 1000 and EC 500 has 24 frets.... but those apparently are from LTD.... and weird thing is... the stuff from LTD USA is kinda diff from the JP ones.... care to enlighten me... or am i wrong...

apparently, i can't find this 2 models on the jp website... they aren't made in japan? how bout their workmanship....? since its an LTD.... not gd eh?

i guessing from wat the rest of u guys are saying.... i think an edwards LP would be a gd choice... any nice models to recommend?

Hey dude. If you insist on having 24 frets, go for LTD EC500. The LTD EC1000 has too much abalone in my opinion. I don't think Davis brings in EC500 or EC1000. So you'll have to go through other means if you want to acquire that particular model. I've personally played the EC500 and I find it to be a very sweet guitar but my personal preferances is that an LP shaped guitar HAS to be 22 frets and a Hardtail.

For the Edwards, the specs follow closely to the Gibson LP. I've tried a few at Davis before. It really closely resembles the Gibson LP. But the only thing I have against the Edwards is that it is only priced just a bit lower compared to the ESP Eclipse 1. Pay a bit more and you'll get an ESP.

For the ESP variations, I would recommend the Eclipse 1 over the Eclipse 2. Body chamferring and chamberring on an LP? MEH!!! An LP is not meant to weigh like a strat. So I wouldn't touch the Eclipse 2 with a 10-foot pole. Eclipse 1 FTW....

Since you said you have a budget of 1k, I sincerely think that yu would need to raise that budget a bit more if you planning to acquire either the Edwards or the ESP Eclipse. I think even the EC500 overshoots the 1k budget line.

I would get the ESP Eclipse but that is my opinion. Ultimately, it is still up to you.

thats a detailed opinion. imo... hahaha, thnks alot man... sure did help. looks like i might just get myself an ESP... maybe i'll top up a lil on my side... hehehe.

anyway, u mentions chambering etc. does it really take the tone away? cuz according to the makers... it doesn't. so sure would like to know from u guys who have tried with and without chambering / chamferring

hey guys,

anyway, does anyone know how much an ESP eclipse 1 or 2 cost here in Singapore... cheaper to get overseas? sure would be nice to know the price range.

thnks

It should be around mid 2k. I think Davis guitar offer a competitive prices for ESP. For this price range, it is better to get from a local dealer as you need not worry about the condition of the guitar during shipping and it will be better if you try the guitar before buying.

wow..... thats way above my limit... whu was the one whu said just need to top up a lil above 1k?.... hahaha. the budget is still 1k... will to top a lil... but not till it reaches 2 k plus.... so, LTD or edwards? any idea, how much it would cost with davis brought in the LTD ec 1000 or ec 500?

Ha, its impossible to get a brand new ESP slightly above 1k. If you have time, pay Davis a visit. You can get the prices and check for availiability for items which are not there.

hahaa, by the time i leave the office, they'll probably close.... u think they entertain phone calls?

anw.... since ESP is DEFINITELY out of the question.... LTD or Edwards... yeay or neh?

ESP Eclipse 1 cost between 1600 to 2000 range. Eclipse 2 cost between 2100 to 2500.
I have Yet to see a LTD EC500 and EC1000 at Davis. An Edwards would be around the range of 1200 to 1400.

Before buying my Eclipse, I tested out the Eclipse 1 and 2. There is a slight drop in the fatness and warmth of the tone but just barely. I think it will be more obvious with more gain but that is all in my opinion. No doubt that the Eclipse 2 is so much lighter compared to the Eclipse 1.

Do try to give Davis a call. They do entertain calls. I've called them quite a few times before and they do answer your questions to the best they can. Just remember that they are not guitar luthiers so any indepth questions, they might not be able to answer..

Do give local dealers a once over before u decide to bring in from overseas. You might find it actually being cheaper here...

Yup they do answer your enquiry through phone. The Edwards there cost $1050 and above which is much cheaper than stores like Ishibashi.
