How to stabilize Floyd Rose-Edge Pro?

Hi I have an Ibanez RG guitar that is equipped with a Edge Pro tremolo bridge... It is really nice to play with it up/down, but the tuning is SCARY, from E can drop to C...LOL!

Have seen pro players like Vai and Satriani play with the Edge Pros, but how come their tuning remains stable?

Looking for help... (i dont need a tremolno/freelok, but need other advise to keep tuning stable..)

Thankx and Happy new year! :D

hi there 8)

Ibanez's floating vibrato bridges aren't Floyd Rose units, but yes, it is an adaptation/ derivative.

1. Satch/ Vai prefers the previous incarnation of the Edge series- Edge/ Lo-Pro Edge, for respective players. even their current guitars sport these.

2. the current Edge Pro/ II/ III are some of the most reliable in terms of tuning stability. if you have a fresh set of strings in your guitar, stretch them so that tuning issues will be kept to a minimum. i currently own the Edge Pro version- no tuning issues.

Hi thankx for the quick reply, i am also using the Edge Pro, but how come after a week, the tuning is still changing when i use the tremolo just a few times... I know it is suppose to go off a bit but all the way from E to C?

something might be loose- check the top lock/ bridge string saddle.

bolted both parts quite tightly... doesnt seem to work... maybe i pull/pushed too hard when i play with the tremolo?

the new incarnations of ibanez trems are good but becoz they du not use locking studs anymore, tuning still goes off abit. and yes stretch ur strings so tat u keep tuning probs to the minimum

thanks for the advise... i'll keep stretching tthose strings of mine... hope they dont break due to excessive stretching...

lock the nut and play the string between tuner and nut and whammy, if its pitch doesnt change, at least you know your done on the nuts.

actually i always thought that the lack locking studs on edge pro is the one of the reason why it lose out to lo-pro, edge and so on providing u set the locking studs properly

if you are certain everything is being set properly, maybe the tremolo springs is not stretch enough.

i once heard that a loosly fitted neck could be a problem too, so check it out if the neck and body have any small gaps on the sid

This locking nuts thing is not necessarily a BIG issue.

At full tension, the trem posts are already held in place via string & spring tension. The posts COULD move due to heavy abuse.

However, even if the posts move, its like you said, tunning goes off by a wee bit. A BIT.

An E to C drop is a huge difference!

hey i use an edge pro II. i realized that to keep the tuning from going off, i have to lock the locking nuts real tight, like tight until there is like a mark of the screw on the screw pad. is it normal? because if i just lock it just finger tight, it will go out of tune after using the whammy.

so its normal for the nut pad to have screw marks on them? coz i always hear ppl saying just screw it finger tight & not too tight.

My finger tight can be different from your finger tight. :)

With time you'll know how much force finger tight is. As you said, you need to screw it in till its enough for the strings to NOT move.

ya i have similar problem... how tight is tight? if you screw too tight, the whole locking nut may spoil, so i screw about 1/4 more after the natural tightness... definitely finger tight because i cant unscrew it with my fingers...

Finger tight is in relation to using an allen wrench, not your fingers.

oops, i took the literal meaning for it... so how tight is finger tight? i am using allen wrench at the moment... quite tight...
