yar, this one is called independence. i'm also practising now. either one of the components must learn to auto pilot. if its simple guitar with difficult vocals, guitar auto pilot. if its simple vocals, difficult guitars, vocal auto pilot.
if both auto pilot, then song not nice liao, you become a midi file with no dynamics

I Realized That Now I Can Play The Guitar Abit Like Not Thinking, [Sorry bout the caps]
'Cause i will always focus on the vocal more rather than the guitar parts as most of it are chords n no picking. But I agree that independence and ability to multi-task plays a CRUCIAL role for this task. I will work hard man!

hello from what i know =) you just need to get things done 1 by 1 =)
first get the song you wan =D
then learn the chords until you don't need to look at what u are pressing =)
then try to listen to the song all day so that you would memorise the whole sequence of the song
lastly then will you be able to sing and play together =) haha
