How to select an Audio Interface?

Hi,

I need help selecting an audio interface. I intent to record small music ensembles just for playback and some fun. What do I have to look out for when selecting an AI( besides the various inputs) ? I hope to find something decent and that isn't so bad. I am intending to go with either a Shure SM57 or AKG perception 170 mic.

Here is are what I would most likely be needing.

1x 1/4 stereo jack
2x mic XLR ports.
0x Guitar equipment stuff( I dont play the guitar )

At the entry level, you are selecting based on the sound of the preamps, the latency of the drivers and the availability of rudimentary features like phantom power and hi-z inputs.

At the higher levels, you are probably selecting based on latency, stability, preamps and output stage.
