how to push a rat?

Hey guys i have a modded rat2, and I love the tone this pedal produces on low gain settings. However I find for instances where I need higher gain/distortion, it produces too much fuzz and hum than I would like.

Therefore I'm thinking of adding another drive unit to push the rat in cases where I need more 'in your face' distortion, so to speak. Which brings me to this question. Which pedal should I get? I'm thinking a russian big muff, since I really admire the boomy low end it offers, but maybe an overdrive unit would better suit my purposes. Or maybe just get another rat and find a better noisegate? I don't really need crunch, just a massive wall of distortion, every now and then.

What are your opinions on this? I just want to see some suggestions before I try out some pedals.

Option 1 : Get a booster

Option 2 : Get a Turbo Rat (better for higher gain stuff)

Option 3 : Get a Deucetone Rat for versatility

Option 4 : Get another distortion pedal for different purposes

Option 5 : An amp with solid onboard distortion would be more than enough

the fuzz factor at higher drive settings is indeed its peculiarity. personally, i dislike it for this very reason, however, at lower drive settings, it's one of the better booster pedals out there.

i think you should get a pedal to boost that dirt.be it an overdrive or an eq pedal.

or

get another dirt pedal and use the rat as a booster.

i like using rat2. a good generic fx pedal that is reasonably priced. like u, i like it at low gain, maybe b4 the 10 oclock position, but beyond that i dont like it. anw, wht kind of mod is it?

That's very very true.. It is awesome at lower settings, but it gets too fuzzy at higher settings! Hence the option of a filter!

I'm not sure but I bought it off some guy selling it off here. He said it was modded for the lm308 chip as well as to change to the boss-style adaptor slot. All I know is the led is a bright blue color, and batteries don't seem to work with it. Anyway, I'm using onespot, so I'm happy with it, because of the tone on the low gain settings.

as mentioned by others; if you like it/ has fruitful applications for it & it's your primary drive/ distortion source, try boosting it with other pedals.

but i feel that the filter doesnt adequately get rid of the excessive fuzz and hum. for me, when the gain past 2-3oclock, it gets horribly aweful, and the filter just doesnt help.
