How to plug guitar into computer?

oo i see...

all i know so far is that the output from the electric guitar and the output of normal line-out is different in some ways other than the power of the signal...

anybody familiar with this care to explain please?

for all intents and purposes, treat guitar outputs the same as microphone outputs.. ie. they need a preamp to boost the signal level up to line level.

ahh yeah thx! but apart from signal strength... like any other difference eg digital and analog?

heard that pickup signals are "wild" or something and needs to be "cleaned-up" by certain processors

hey you can try getting the zoom g2.1u plug in the guitar via usb so no worries bout damaging your sound card, you can even use your amp as a speaker for your pc and the bundled software is quite good for recording and mixing

There is one more way man...anyone own a toneworks ax3000? you are able to do recording and stuffs thru your effects... its acts like a toneport UX2 its just that you have to do it manually with your fingers.

anyone knows if i plug my amp with my pedals using the line out into the computer, can i still get the same sound? cos im quite keen on recording some stuff here and there. i have the adapter for guitar to the soundcard port thingy so would tat work?

don't underestimate the power of using a normal microphone meant for skype/voice calls.

i've been able to coax some pretty good tones by just putting it infront of amp and plugging the other end normally into my com's mic input.

imho it sounds much more organic and 'real' as compared to plugging straight in, your pedals will sound better to as they wont be going straight into the com.

i'd post a soundclip up, but i dont really have a place to upload :(

personally....

guitar->amp->amp's phone out/line out->computer line in
OR
guitar->an efx pedal->computer line in <-- tone sux tho

Then audacity it, cubase it, whatever...

If you don't hear any sound you may have your "line in" muted in the 'windows sound mixer' (under recording mode)

amplitube 2 instructions

INPUTS TO USE:
Hi-Z inputs.
Instrument inputs.
The Microphone XLR input can ONLY be used if you are using an active DI BOX between the guitar 1/4” Plug and the Mic XLR input.
NOT TO USE:
Regular Line inputs.
NEVER connect your guitar directly to line inputs
NEITHER -10dB nor +4dB inputs can be used for your guitar

this is what the manual says.
can anyone decipher cos i dont what this is all about. i jst understand the NEVER N NEITHER parts but not to plug in properly

THe main reason why you have to plug in thru preamp is because electric guitar is passive....so the signal is naturally weak..the purpose of the preamp is to boost the signal....another way is plug into your guitar amp....then use your headphone out from the amp to the line-in of your computer.....in that way you don't need a preamp...

If you just wanna record for fun...then that is the way...or else go firewire....

Actually it is ok to connect guitar to Line input but not Mic input...cause mic input has lower impedance.....means less resistance in term of signal...so you might get distorted sounds if you plug in a guitar into a mic input......

SO mixer without Line input usually they will have a channel for instrument...which is call the HIgh-Z meaning high impedance....

Hope that helps...hehe

oh i should have explained earlier
my purpose is to connect my guitar to my laptop
so if i wanna connect it there dont i need to use the mic input?
i dont have a di box or anything n i want to use amplitube for it

Forget about anything else la honestly, if you dont mind using a computer mouse to substitute pedalswitches, then nothing beats the performance for money ratio of this..

Line 6 - TonePort

$100 bucks and you get tons of tones and good sound coming out of any soundcard. It sounds great on my laptop even!

Arsony

actually i do mind lar.. cos im goin to uk n i jst wanted the progrrams so i didnt need to get an amp when im in uni there n a toneport would jst be extra baggage
