How to improve guitar skills?

step one : practice
step two : get a teacher + practice
step three : read up on lessons online + practice
step four : MORE PRACTICEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

yeah.. you get my drift..

hey ask u all ar, i am learning all my songs by tab. i only know one blue pentatonic scale and been playing up and down for ages and pretty familar with it but i still cant hit out blues solo from it leh, how people do that? i know some solo that falls in totally into the pentatonic scale, how do those artist compose until so swee one? somemore their live confirm not the same how do they do it? i try whacking random notes inside the scale but it sounds totally off and awefull. im kind of struck

compose la, u said it urself. most of the time, either its improvised which means u need experience or they slowly write lor. What im saying is that John Petrucci did not just come up with the Under the Glass Moon solo.

Its all the feel man. The scale is a guide but u must create ur own lick/feel. Thats what blues all about man.

haha... we're not kings of improvision until we can come up with solos out of nowhere.

again, practice makes perfect. there are a total of 5 notes in one octave of pentatonic scale. play around with these notes in 2-3 octaves, experiment with sequence of notes and you can come up with good solos
