how to "hear" myself and the other musicians through earphones

repulsivity

hello guys. i need help

i play the electric guitar in church and due to space constraints and resource shortages, we do not have our own amps for the guitars and i have to share a single monitor speaker with other instruments.

my friend had a solution for his bass. he bought a DI box called bass-buddy, which allowed him to have an output/input to and from the mixer and a 3.5" output, allowing him to listen to the band and himself via his earphones.

is there such a thing for guitarists also? ie to say.. guitarbuddy or something like that.

and if there isn't, is there a way on how i may "hear" myself and the other musicians through a earphones instead of a monitor speaker?

You can use a multieffects board like a POD XTLive and plug in your headphones into there. You would need some long headphone cables though. It's good for you can get many sounds associated with modern Christian music from the POD, it has speaker and amp emulator so you wont sound weird and muddy through the mixer/sound board, and you can plug in some headphones.

I would think there would be 'guitarbuddy' stuff out there but I can't help you there.

Thinking long term, I do suggest your music team and parents and church should purchase a guitar amp, more monitors ; ideally one for the worship leader, drummer/musicians, choir if any, cables, maybe keyboard amp. It would help in producing better sound and the band plays tighter for a ideal environment for worship and praise.

You start with 2 fishes and 5 loaves, and you grow from there.

Not trying to hijack but i'm interested in this as well. Always wondered how EJ and Paul Gilbert could use headphones in the middle of the stage to protect their ears + listen to the band. Would be great if someone could enlighten us on the subject! :D

Basically, what you need are In-Ear-Monitors.

quick google on what systems are there will reveal some options. a commonly used one is known as an Aviom system.

Alternatively, floor monitors can be invested in and you could plug your earphones, preferably those in-ear-canal types (Shure/Westone/Senn/Livewires are good, but pricey). at $99, you can pick up Shure SCL2s, pretty decent for the price.

Amp wise, you as a guitarist could invest in multi effects, a pod maybe. That will enable you to go straight into the mixer. this way you'd remove the need for amps.

thanks for the help guys..

i have an PODXT live, but the problem with listening through the headphones jack is that i can't hear anyone else.

anyway to solve it?

think i can get a "bass-buddy" to use for myself??

Your PODXT has an AUX INPUT. You can send a mix from the mixer into this and you will be able to hear your band and your guitar.

Only thing is, I don't know if you can disable the AUX IN from going to the OUTPUT.

Anyone knows?

yeap. the aux input also goes to the output. i've tried it a few times before.

instead of a "whole system" which requires approval from the church, is there another product thats more personal and more affordable?
