How to get this effect?

Hi all,

Not sure if I am posting in the right section, so please notify me if it is the wrong place to post.

I am trying to find out about a particular effect, and how to get this kind of sound.

Here's the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wY0HAjQNVf4

You can hear it near the start of the video, from 0:08 to 0:22. It happens again, at around the 1:53 mark.

Cheers!

Sounds like any normal fuzzy distortion. If you're talking about the filter that makes the guitar sound "far away" or through a loudhailer, for this video it's done in post-production when he's editing/mixing the sound, not using a pedal. But you can achieve it using band pass filter pedals. I have an Ibanez LF-7 Lo Fi which has high and low pass filters, you can simulate loudhailer, telephone, and radio kinda tones.

Oh... post-production huh? I was hoping there would be something like a volume pedal for such an effect for live gigs. Thanks anyway!

The Eventide Modfactor could possibly do the filtering (never tried one in person), with expression pedal control. Or I'm sure you could rig something up with a good multieffect like a POD HD500. If not the Ibanez LF-7 is pretty cheap although it's just on/off.

yup, that telephone / loudhailer effect can be done using band pass filters. might be able to do it with a graphic eq also but not to such an extent. the part where the swells seems to come in is a normal filter with sweeping frequency. should be able to achieve with the effects available in the pod hd500
