how to get knocking on heaven's door tone

im guessing PAF pickup in neck, tone knob halfway thru, double crunch (ie use the marshall crunch or hook 2 marshall heads together - heard thats how slash does it) and EQ settings probably bass 7/10, mid 5/10 and treble 5/10 as well... that works for me

i did a quick search on wht effect pedals did slash use on that song but to no avail. i guess he didnt use any effect pedals. in fact, my impression is that he seldom uses pedals, is that right?

He does love his wah.

The formula to Slash's tone is SD Alnico Pro 2 pickups and his signature Marshall amp. And of course his settings that you can look up on the web.

If you want to get close you will need a decent distortion pedal with a British voicing (eg. Crunchbox) and those SDs as above.

If I am not wrong Slash adds a subtle delay when soloing to add dimesion to his tone too. Not very noticable however.

Do check out Buckethead's KoHD solo too. ;)
