How to execute STRING MUTE n PICK SLIDE???

I tried doing pickslide but there is not much sound from it. Tried newer picks and the sound was much more audible. However still not perfect. I am trying to do the intro for Muse -hysteria.
AND i can't do a string mute also. I have no idea where to position my hand as positioning them at diff places gives completely DIFFERENT sounds.
SOMEONE PLEASE help!!!

for pick slides, you need to scrape the pick sides on the low e and a strings
do it on the high e, ull get hardly any sound,for string mutes aka palm mute( P.M in tabs)place the fleshly part of your pick hand on the part of strings where it meets the bridge and have contact withe the strings
higher gain settings would also help for pick slides

He does not palm mute in the intro..

Place your fretting hand over the strings but don't press them down and strum.

Sound very awful when i do that. Should i increase the gain??

ok so whats ur setup?cos this guy in muse uses really high distortion gain till it feedbacked.

hehe use fuzz factory.

touch lightly on the strings for the mute.

pick slides only on the bass strings. 3 lowest strings.
