How to do screamo?

I'm a vocalist and I'm looking to do emo and screamo songs with my band. As a so-called "requirement" for certain songs that have screamo vocals, it needs to be loud and clear. I'm always left with a hoarse or broken voice after just screaming for a few verses or I just can't scream loud enough. How do I overcome these problems and do it like the pros of screamo like Alexisonfire, Silverstein, Senses Fail, From Autumn To Ashes? I'm really in need of advice.

Well, if it hurts, it just means you are doing it the wrong way.
Check out "Zen of Screaming" by Melissa Cross.
Should be able to help you out and start screaming properly.

my POV on screaming is this.

everyone's screaming is different. that's what's making it special.
so if you're doign a cover, not necessarily you have to follow their way of screaming, trying to attain their sound.
instead, you can come up with your own way, your own sound. ( but of course you still have to make it acceptable to others lah)
juz find a way of screaming that you feel best suits you and you're most relaxed at doing. then maybe you'll feel drained after screaming lor.

for me personally i can go on screaming for a long time lah ( arguments with my parents do help, although i'm sad to say=[=[) but have to drink water after that lor.

haha, i think u already know the reason la.. but anyway its cause
sceamo = sceaming + emo
and there is no gore-o cause gore aint emo
and there isnt shout-o cause emos cant shout, i think thats called hardcore?
sing-o would mean emo?
and thinking about yell-o just made me blur..

anyway.. to emptyspaces.. i watched the video leh, she doesnt teach me to scream.. she only teach me how to make funny noises as warm up..

HAHA, dam, ur from EOA?, ur band has some pretty gnarly screams..

Just a thought to the screamo vocalists; What are the changes to your voice, singing or speaking, in the long run of singing screamo? Like do you feel your throat opens up more easily, or whether your speaking voice becomes louder?

Okay I get the idea that everybody's screaming is different and that's why it's so special. I get the fact that I have to find my own style but I still don't know how to do it properly. Thanks to emptyspaces for your advice video and to KeDraiv too. But I don't quarrel with my parent. I just ignore when I need to. However, I still ended up with the same problems and this time, worse still, I have a sore throat. Thanks ikilledkenny! for your bandlist but that's what I usually listen to as well so I know how they sound like. The thing is, I still don't know how to find my individual style or sound. How exactly do you exercise your vocal chords until they can scream properly?

haha, wasn't going to ask you to argue with ur parents.

but anyway, if you find ur self breathless after screaming, you can try training up your chest muscles.

since to scream you'll need to draw in a lot of air to force it out.
so if you don't really have a lot of chest muscles, you'll be tired after singing a few songs and so on lah.

nt sure if that helps though.
but honestly, most of the screamers i see have chest muscles lah.lol

unless you wan death/black metal type of voice, that one i think is more of how u shape your vocal chords. lol

the local metal growler's i've heard so far all sound either more like grunts or like screamo type screaming.

haven really heard a good growler yet.

According to my vox, his favourites are At The Gates, Opeth and ex-Cryptopsy..
It's up to individual taste really, for me I like Arch Enemy and Opeth, and the vox from Troll :}

haaha, omg, ive been watching those how to sing properly videos.. maybe u should go check them out.. they say if ur throat gets sore that means ur singing only using ur throat, u should sing with ur diaphragm but use ur throat just to make the tune.. yeah,something like that.. haha dam chim

How to scream higher pitches?

Yeah thanks guys after watching all those videos I can finally scream well, really loud and clear. But now I have another problem. How do I scream higher pitches? My screaming now sounds like metal screaming rather than emo screaming. And I'm actually doing emo screaming genres like Silverstein and Alexisonfire and all that. I know that everyone has his own style and sound which is what makes it special but how do I raise my pitch of screaming to match theirs?
