I have some classical guitar which my sis bought cos she joined guitar ensemble in sec sch. now she rarely touches it and i'm the one who plays it (plus my electric). but im more into the sound of an acoustic. So any tips on how I should pick an acoustic?

And what good brands are there for acoustic guitar and where can I get it? my budget will be ard 300 (the price i'm planning to sell off my classical).

Hey pessimist!

One thing you can look out for is the type of wood used in the construction of the guitar (laminate wood or solid wood?). With your budget of $300, you should be able to get an entry level solid-top guitar. As far as the brands are concerned, you can try checking out Cort, Maestro or Yamaha. Hope that helps!

Keep that classical and get say a Fender Acoustic from swee lee , they sell it cheap there but for me . The acoustic guitars tone depends a lot on the wood , construction , shape , strings and neck , Also the materials used to build it . Mahogany sounds different from maple and elder for example so you really gotta go out there and try them for youself . After all tone is subjective and very personal .

Oh and not acoustics sound the same , even if they are the same model from the same factory .

yup, the classical is some azahar model 103 which costs us 414bucks. it's a solid top guitar from Luthier Guitar Centre at Bukit Timah Plaza. so I was hoping it would fetch a higher price. and I can't buy another acoustic or my mum will kill me cos our house not really a lot of space left. so I want to sell the classical. is TGM good? lol, my friend uses it.

Remember that you're buying a guitar, not buying wood. So don't just go for specifications, go for the tone.

A lot goes into making a quality, good-sounding acoustic. Aside from the materials used. A well-made laminate can even sound better than a poorly constructed and ill-thought out solid top guitar.

those classical guitars are made in spain. not too bad but it depends on the condition to see if you can fetch a good price. TGM is not a very reliable brand. I have played a few before. the frets were uneven, the nut was not cut well, the neck warps really fast etc. I've even seen one of the bridge come off one of my friend's TGM acoustic. maybe I'm biased but there is no way I would recommend such a guitar despite the entry level price.

walk around peninsular plaza/excelsior hotel. plenty of good guitar stores there.
