How to balance a headstock heavy guitar?

Hi,

I own an epiphone SG and it's pretty headstock heavy and always has it's headstock wanting to point to the ground. I realized it's pretty hard to fret this way. I've been looking into it and alot of other people who own a headstock heavy guitar advised me to get a rather thick strap. I am currently considering a mono guitar strap from citymusic. Do you think it'll help balance the guitar?

Thanks for any help :D

to:3hree6ixty Yup,I have heard of that but i try to avoid all the technical solutions to this problem as if the strap solution works it would be so much more easier, however if i do realize that changing to a thicker strap isn't working out i might give that a shot, thanks

i dunno about changing your straps, but i know some ppl who change the position of their strap buttons. as for me, my sg seems pretty balanced as it is...

It is? I always felt they were pretty balanced. Hahah if i'm not happy with the guitar i'll sell it... Unless i love it so. Maybe you can sand some of the headstock off. Okay don't try.

Yes i love it so.haha,Like i said, i'm just looking around to see if the mono guitar strap actually helps to balance the guitar just need someone to confirm this.

Friend of mine who has been playing guitar for quite some time, said something about using thick leather straps or suede(?) to fix this neck dive problem, ever heard of it?

i think its not abt using a thick or thin strap, but more of using a strap that has alot of gripping action on ur shoulder so that the guitar wont slip as u play. thickness of the strap only adds comfort imho :)

if that's the case, any guitar straps that has alot of gripping action to recommend? Thanks :D

actually i've also heard about the mono straps to balance headsock-heavy guitars personally, but i forgot from who / where. oh you can try also to use a very heavy cable, best bet is to get the coily ones by bullet (the one paul gilbert uses). heard they'll help put some weight on the jack area, serving as a counter weight.

I never have issues with headstock-heavy guitars, actually. Primarily because I'm holding my guitar's neck all the time and keeping it there. A bit more tiring and takes some getting used to, but after awhile it becomes a habit. Well.. this works for me but there's no guarantee it'll work for everyone haha.
