for me i use a capo on mi 12-string acoustic, coz i tune it to DDGGCCFFAADD(stadard tuning is EEAADDGGBBEE) as mi high G string usually snaps due to either a poorly cut nut or really high tension, and i use the capo to play it in standard tuning

anw with 2 frets less on a 20 fret guitar, i still don't feel restricted, as i mainly play chords on it coz im no SRV, i dont have the dexterity or strength to play leads on it

Another one heavily dependant on capo here. Too lazy to find chords in say, G#. Sometimes open chords sound nicer for strummy kinds of songs also.

I use the capo sometimes, but for rock stuff I tend to drop it since I prefer to have the full range of frets available. It's really useful if you want to make a song unique - the capo makes the guitar tones sound different.
