Ermmm don't mind if i butt in to ans this qns. I have Vintage30s in my Mesa Boogie F-30. Mesa amps usually come with Mesa Celestion Black Shadow speakers. I'm really glad it came with vintage 30s. its got alot of punch and warmth and bass response. great speakers IMO.
I tend to associate the V30 sound with a tight bass and upper mids.
To my ears, the V30 shines when handling effects laden sound and moreso distortion. It adds definition to the sound and I really like how it reproduces distorted lead guitar.
As Repulse87 mentioned, I share the experience of the V30 sounding good on Mesa amps (at least those I've tried).
However, if you're planing to use a Class A amp or a fairly clean amp, look elsewhere for a better suited speaker. You're gonna find that the V30 makes the amp sound sterile and trebbly.
For me, I've found the best compromise to be a V30 with either a Greenback or GH30 in a 2x12 close-cab format.
1. This driver breaks up easily at low volumes, it thrives on high gain, effects laden inputs. it's not good for cleans...
2. If you are gonna install this as an after-market replacement, make sure your enclosure has thick walls + closed back. the v30 sounds thin & trebly with thin-walled cabs, especially open back units.
Are the Marshall 1936 G12T-75W 2x12 speaker cabinet a good choice. I am using a Class A 15 Watt amp head. Or are there any local stores here that i can get a good 2x12? Pls recommend. Thanks
