Hmm.

I'll look for tabs or chords... and research the lyrics (if any).

If either are not reliable then have to depend on hearing and experimentation on the fretboard.

I feel that listening to the song takes far too much time & effort if you do not have a clue about music theory.

look for the best rated tab of the song on the net. after that, do the necessary corrections using your ears.

u dun really need to have music theory to learn by listening to a song, u juz hear wad note it is, & u play it on ur guitar, & see if it is e right note.

juz wondering, wad if 1 day all e tabs in e world were gone?

that's probably gonna happen soon becos the stupid book companies are suing all the tab companies. stupid. fuking stupid.

haha.. die..
nah, dun tink it'll happen. unless its straight from the tab/score book and you post it in the net, thats infringing. but if you make out the tabs yourself, when you think of it, its actually yours. you're posting your tabs. so, the copyright goes to you. right? :D

If you have inaccurate tabs, make it sound accurate.

It's like a guide, a start of point for you and you explore from there.

I'll say most tabs are at least 50% correct, the idea is there but the key, note choice etc maybe different. Explore and have fun :)

PS: Best is to use your ears. 8)

i agree with jon__. i believe we shld always try to learn a song by just listening to it & not relying on tabs etc. have u ever wondered how those ppl who tab songs out on many websites out there actually do it?

relinquish69: I agree.

I'm not skilled enough to pickup single notes and things yet, just powerchords and sometimes open chords.

If i really wanna learn, i'll ask my teacher to listen and he will work it out and teach me it.

the thing about listening to music and trying to learn it by ear is that it really trains your ear to recognize how different chords and intervals sound..and then when you improvise and stuff you can use the same concepts to play what you want to hear, as opposed to simple scale runs or licks that you can fit into key.

..there's nothing easier than looking at mxtabs though

music theory knowledge may help too.

pracitsing the guitar all the time also trains perfect pitch.

a programme... to open some tabs..

its more useful than tabs in some ways like it shows you the timming and all the different roles.. just imagine playing the original song except with all the roles all plot it out for u to see..

but the thing bad about guitarpro is that it sounds too digital..i listened to the mp3 backing track and the guitarpro backing track, walao feel like puking man..guitarpro TOO digital, the guitar dun even sound like guitar at all..so definetely not my cup of tea :) as i would love more realistic sounds..LOL
