How do you find a gig?

Hey guys, I've been looking at the "GIGS" part of SOFT forums recently, and I've seen so many adverts for upcoming gigs featuring local acts. What I'm curious is how these bands managed to enter (or even find) these gigs in the first place, I don't see much ads here in soft asking bands to perform in them.

Sure there are but the amount of ads asking bands to join their gigs <<<<<< ads showcasing gigs. I don't know if you guys get what I mean, so I'm simply asking, how does one join a gig?


EDIT: BTW I'm in a band already, but no we're not looking for gigs just yet, I'm just curious xD

First and foremost, make sure the music you guys play is up to speed. Once that's done, go to shows, get to know the organisers. Record demo tracks and put up a myspace page, or burn em onto CDs and pass em on. Post in the OM section. Most importantly, don't be afraid to ask questions, or to speak to strangers at shows.

its important that you have a demo recorded nd put up on your my space.so the organisers can agak-ration from your material to see you worth to play in their gig.

Well, it doesn't hurt to know more people in the scene, espcially organisers.. since your band is new maybe play a small scale DIY gig first?
