How 2 carefully choose a pickup so dis won't happen

Measure the distance between the low and the high E string and compare it with the pickup. Of course, it would look really strange if you went to do that at a guitar shop. Just take your guitar (stringed), ask to match the pickup visually by putting the pickup on top of the strings... view and see.

The second question is far too complicated for me to answer. Google up and search what you can. My advice is to get a good guitar tech to do a good job for you, he probably knows most of the things to do to change a pickup properly.

buy a guitar that sounds good stock :D best solution. i've never wanted to change pickups on any of mine.

no those blade type pickups have to be position exactly 90degrees perpendicular to the strings and you kno whave easy those Epi pup rings can twist under the heat of heavy riffing....

Get EMGs:!:

Z-B guy....unless you changed the bridge, regular non-F non-trem spaced pups should fit properly. If not, re-routing the pickup cavity to move the pups over is a easy job. Anyone with a chisel and screwdriver can do it.
