Hotmail problem

Of late i've been having trouble with hotmail.
When i log in, my cpu usually moves into overdrive causing a loud whirring sound to come on which only goes off when i close the hotmail window.

Also, while in hotmail, the links often are non-functional even though the webpage is operating as per normal.

Any help would be much appreciated and thanks in advance!
