I want to setup my very own recording studio at my home.
i dont need any instruments to record.I need to record vocals only from a condenser mic.The music is from the computer which i have composed and all.
Please tell me what are the items i might need to purchase in this case.

Thanks and i have a budget of around $1K.so do tell me which items to get with their price tag if possible and where to get too thanks a million.

Hi Ruben,

There are many possibilities but I'll suggest the basic setup. You only need the following,

1) Audio Interface (Eg. M-Audio Firewire 410, Presonus Firebox) -> The audio interface has microphone preamps and will provide phantom power for your condenser mic. It links to your computer usually by USB or firewire and will enable you to record your inputs (guitar, microphone, keyboards)

2) Audio Sequencer software (Eg. Audacity, Sonar, Cubase) -> The software will help you record, arrrange and edit your sound.

Thanks utano..well any good and affordable condenser mic i can buy and wad is e price tag like for the stuffs u mentioned..

The firebox and firewire 410 are estimated to be around $450-$500. Firebox available at luthermusic and the 410 at Sinamex. The firebox is a tad cheaper. You could try the M-audio luna for an affordable condenser. If you can up your budget perhaps you can try a Rode NT-1a. Do take a look at a few brands and try them out before you commit.

i personally feel that, since you're doing alot of things through your computer, you can try getting a M-box 2 @ sae ard $400+. It comes with protools, which i personally feel is the most user friendly. and for the microphone, u can check out this shop @ Sunshine plaza call resolution. the M-audio Lunar is a great buy too, personally heard it and its definitely one of the better one around. or if u want a more standard one, u can simply grab a Shure SM58. With 1K, you can get really, alot of stuffs! but according to what you want to do, its best to get a interface, a mic and if you're computer is not running well enough, i suggest u can upgrade it=D trust me, if the memory is not enough, it can get REALLY irritating! =D

for home recording, i will not recommend condenser mic because they tend to be omni-directional and therefore will pick up all sorts of ambient noise unless your room is sound proof. your PC's fan (if it is like mine) will generate noise, passing vehicle etc.

the SM58 is a decent mic (it's a dynamic mic with cardoid pattern) and it has good damping against movement. you may consider a USB mic too (you will not need another box or mixer). they are handy if you dont need more than one mic.
