i am a user of SG and only tinker with the neck pickup.. don know why:mrgreen:. just like that round sound, playing both lead and rythm, melodies... everything.

i am thinking of changing to a hot pickup and eyeing the EMG 81 and 85 for quite sometime.. but wonder how they sound on neck..

and right now.. also aiming at seymour or Dimarzio pickup too..

what a dilemma.. anyone can help??

you like round sound.81/85 is a bad idea.81/60 is a better combination.but what genre do play?amps you use?

oh.. thank... mostly funk rock like Rage against the machine, some general rock like alterbridge..

and i don use the bridge pickup at all..
so thinking of dropping it..

okie if 60s is the choice.. wonder Davis got stock.

Hi there,

okie the stock pickup is describe as this
the sound is muddy.
and lack of treble and mid..
and when tapping ... sometime if not dial hard..
it inaudible.

is it just me or is it harder to tap on jumbo frets?

edit:nothing to do with your post.cause you said dial hard.just a separate qns.

I'd like to suggest that you buy some bodaciously outrageously aweful to the MAX with TONE kind of pups but... I'm guessing - how clear are you on what you're about to get yourself into?

Here's a few questions to clarify:

1) Look at your neck pup - tell me the distance of top of pup to the high e string. Give me the distance for the low E string too.

2) What are your amp settings?

3) Do you use pedals? If so, what are they and what are their settings?

1. oki the distance is around 5mm

2. the sound described is a direct jack in. with mid/high/bass all in 12oclock postion

3. ya. use a distortion pedal switch between ts 8, a HM3, a MT2. that' all

dude.. you gotta tinker with the EQ on the amp to get better tone and what nots.. leaving it all in 12 O clock posistion isn't the best way to get "good tone" try turning the knobs in different directions. general Eq settings for rock are bass to 8 treble to 6 mids about 4 or 5 for me. just mess ard with em and depends on the amp as well.

thats why you find that your guitar lacks treble and mids, and also muddy.

hi,
thanks ..ya i know that. that's for shredcow.usually i meddle with it.
however the 12o clock setting is to produce an unbiased setting for shredcow to comment

bedokkids, regarding the amp settings - what are your settings?

I wouldn't be able to provide comments on your "unbiased setting".
