hi. i'd like to know how one can be a bar singer, singing jazz songs and make money.. i mean what's the first step?

have a unique voice, have a good voice control, make a name for yourself aka sylvester sim, then when people know you, they'd hire you, at a riduculous price, then recording companies go after you!!! then when you make an album, it gets heard on radio everywhere, then it gets to the no.1 charts everywhere!!!!!! then people pay tributes by the millions to you, then you become richer than mr gates!!!!!!!!!!! sighh :( i'm dreaming...

^ haha people ask about being a bar singer and you go on about selling out? A bit far right? Hahaha.

I think to be a bar singer it'd really help to have connections. Like friends who know the bar owners etc. Or you could go straight up to them and ask if they'd like someone to perform.

i don't know. actually my family's having a financial crisis and i thought singing in bars could give me some cash.

haha. don't mislead lah. :P

record a good demo of yourself, then send to whatever pub you're targeting and impress yourself to the management. learn covers and be versatile. :)

not too sure how much you could earn from that. unless you're really good and the pubs are willing to pay.

well, looking back to the side of reality, i think you could get a part-time job if pubs dont wanna hire you due to age limits...

walk in to eating places, drinking places, places with spaces that allow you to perform, especially if you don't need a lot of logistical support or space.

you'd be surprised who'd be willing to hire musicians, only they don't know any.

(if anyone gets a real paying gig doing this, please pay me S$0.01 for copyright fees  )

that's a very valid consideration... ya.

LLIMYXX - perhaps you might want to reconsider, or at least consider where you want to sing in.

LLIMYXX, if you are 16, i suggest that you do part-time work that are normally undertaken by teenager your age. these could be working at fast food resturant, departmental store, fashion outlet ...

you will not be of legal age to work in a place where alcohol is sold.

you can approach http://www.cdc.org.sg

if you are still schooling, do approach your school for assistance.

don't worry, SOFTies will always be here to be your friend and render help!

A little hard, i suggest you go work Cold Storage.

If you want, you can come over Holland V's cold storage, i use to work there so u got a higher chance of getting the job.

U get CPF, u get transport money, u get alot of good freebies trust me. lol

pay's not bad as well, 4.50 weekdays 5.10 weekends, depending on the position u took.

i abit adventurous so i took the cut vege, fruits department, and the fish department. not stinky one trust me, u will find it real fun, and will definitely help u financially alot.

well it helped me =P

Newbie gd suggesstion!
LLIMYXX part time is the way to go..
as for singing u can try hook up or contact an event management kinda company ..mayb they got something for u..

im thinking like a special event where singers are needed ..like Dinner and dance ..special function .. wedding dinner...that sort of thing..
that way u might be able to make some money and also be spotted by some talent scouts..

gd luck..and always looks on the bright sight ok

maybe you can participate in Singapore Idol? Looking at last year's winners, you don't need to be so good in singing. Less tough than singing in a pub.

yup. right now i'm working as a waiter. but i thought i could wrk in bars to earn more money..

singing in bars/pubs/nightspots don't pay well. and you need lots of time to prac. worse if you're with a band. so it's a no go, if your primary aim is to earn quick bucks.
