Hey guys,
I'm working on a track which i just recorded a few days ago.
I need some opinion and guidance on how to make it sound better.
What is lacking and etc
This is my first time doing this, so i hope i don't butcher any of your ears /:
I will appreciate every suggestion and advices.

I used:
Cubase 5.5
Line 6 GX with pod farm
Ez Drummer
and nexus for the synth

The track is located here

Have a great day guys.

Interesting tune.

Probably work on the stereo imaging. It sounds mono in many parts. The hi hat is way too loud and not gelled to the mix. The drums are not panned properly. The drums have no room sound. Instruments are mostly stuck in the middle.

It is very thin sounding. There is a lack of definition in all instruments. Everything seems to be distorted. The bass needs to be mixed louder. Instruments don't really have their own space.

Btw, are you mixing on speakers in an untreated room? And it sounds boomy in your room? My suggestion is to check your mix on headphones. Because it is totally lacking in low end.

I'm mixing in my bedroom and yea, it sounds quite boomy.
But when I heard through my headphones, and it's sounded too trebly to my taste.
Do i have to re-record the guitars or just eq-ed it to have a better sound.
for the drums, i think i will have to mix it properly before i import it to cubase.

It's still work in progress though, so i'm taking every suggestions and opinions.
Plus i don't have any basic knowledge in this stuffs.
So as i'm trying this out, i'm learning something too

Big thank you :D

like what square said, everything kinda sounds mono.
Hats are definitely too loud, its kinda ear-piercing too but it could be my lousy 2.1 speakers. Cymbals are really soft in comparison with the other drum sounds. Kick is pretty much lost in the mix.

Are guitars double tracked? I think you can start to get a balanced drum sound in EZDrummer first.

You mentioned that when heard through headphones, it sounded like it had too much treble for your taste. However, that's because your track is that way :)

You would get a much better balanced tonality if you were to do the EQ for your various sections while monitoring through headphones.

Try to experiment more with panning, because it seems like almost everything is in the center. It will result in a much more musical mix if your panning is done well.

For the drums, EZ Drummer's default mixer presets usually have a very nice and natural stereo spread (hats on the left etc). Just make sure you are importing it as a stereo track?

Erm, i still don't get it. I recorded my track in mono, so by right my mix will be in mono right? Or after i mix everyth, then i export it to a stereo format? About panning, yes. I only pan guitars to the left and right. So for the drums, should i pan each parts before i export it? And yes, guitar is double tracked. Is it a good thing or bad?

I think you need to export in a stereo format... If you listen to what you uploaded, you will probably find out that its not the same sound that you get in cubase

Zhaf93, you can expect your room sound to be boomy sounding if it is untreated. So, just do a headphone mix that is balanced like grarrgrarr mentioned. You have to make sure you are using something that is reference quality for your headphones also. If not you cannot do a proper mix.

Can you solo your drum track in cubase and check on headphones if every single part of the drum is centered? If yes, did you put some effect that caused it to be mono-lized? Try turning off all effects until you find the offending one if that's the case.

For the guitars, I thought it was pretty muddy sounding. EQ could fix it. It sounded like it could use a nice mid range boost.
