Actually I also think that if you're serious about drumming, just get a good base kit and work your way from there. Stuff like cymbals, better pedals, hardware, etc you can slowly upgrade and add on but personally i think it's much "harder" to upgrade your entire base kit. I started off with a Tama Rockstar instead of a Swingstar which i think would have cost 1/2 as much. Been drumming for almost a decade and I've never felt the need to upgrade from my Rockstar. I did add an extra 10" tom (rockstar also of course) a few years in but I didn't have to change anything major.
