Hey guys!!i need your advice on effects!how will u guys set up your pedalboard?
I mean the kind of effects that you will get!like playing christian music,abit of rock..i am looking for a tone that is not so heavy and messy but abit like john petrucci's tone.can u guys please give me some advice on this as i am very new to effects.or about multi effects?i am not sure to get a multi effects or not.but everyone i ask told me to use single rather than multi.it will be great if u guys will explain a little!thank u so much!

There are many factors in comprising Petrucci’s tone. Amps, guitars, pickups, amps EQ, etc

What kind of gear you’re using? I would recommend an amp simulator like POD XT. Some guys at Petrucci’s forum are using the POD XT & the tones are very similar to his. But you must be able to tweak the sweet spot.

If you’re able to get the amp Petrucci is using, like the Mark IV or the Roadkings, that’s where you can use single effects like modded SD1, etc to boost the amp’s distortion.

If you are leading Petrucci’s tone, then a nice tube amp, preferably the ones I listed above with at least 2x12 is the only way to go if you have $$$. No single pedal with give you a Boogie’s tone.

hey dude, firstly, congrats on your first step to finding THE TONE. its going to be a long journey my man, but well worth it in the end. anyway, sure, analog effects are the way to go, but at this moment, are you willing to commit to that huge investment? theres alot of experimenting to be done with analog effects.

i do think getting a good multi fx for you now might be the better option, it'll enable you to play around much more with your sound and do alot more experimentation and messing around.

if theres any more info any of us softies can offer, do ask more in depth, theres bound to be a million and one people here willing to help.
