Help...yamaha or ibanez

what are the current line up for yamaha in that price range?
im looking for archived model catalogue, any links or direction?
specifically the old attitude series not newer Billy Sheehan models

I think the Yamaha BB414/514 are around that price range.... For the price, u're getting alot of sound and tones... Though it doesnt sound jazzy.. but very punchy with clear highs on the string sound and good for rock.

I totally agree with you bro on that... Yamaha has very well-engineered sound... For one, I know Yamaha basses are good though they do alot of other things... I dont like their current batch of electric guitars.. aka Pacificas... no longer close like when they just released it...

Anyway, back to my point... Yamaha has managed to have very different sound on different models of their bass.. so it's very clear cut to know which bass to go to if u're doing a certain kinda genre... and with a some "miracle-working" efx/pedals... it does create impressive sounds... u can try pairing it up with Zoom B2.1u... u can really see magic happening... :)

Out of your choices I'd choose either the squier or ibanez.

Actually I think you should go out and try the basses for yourself cause sometimes you'll realise what you intended to get doesn't really fit you much and you'll end up liking something else which you never considered. So yeah, you should go out and try first :)

Sorry if I'm hijacking this thread, other that recommendations of basses for that tetsuo sound, any recommendations of preamps, pickups that will do the job?

any advantage having a maple fretboard bass?

none of e choices temptin me as much as older yamaha
though not as near to "those kinda jazzy deep tone like sakurai"
me no pro but ive to agree with jbarker's take on this.. *snip snip* ok -

you can't really go wrong with yamaha bb series... but you might like ibanez srx series too.
one thing though.. i think most of sakurai's tone comes from his amp, or at the very least his bass preamp.
that's something you're not likely to get at your current price range,
but any of the above suggestions will put you somewhere in the region of what he sounds like
as long as you eq yourself properly, especially the jazzes.
