Help...yamaha or ibanez

thats a very wide budget there

for 500 or 600 maybe you can get a good ibanez or squier. depending on whether you want a modern or classic tone.

i'm not big on yamahas, especially on smaller budgets

4 or 5-string?

you can't really go wrong with the yamaha bb series... but you might like the ibanez srx series too. not sure how much those are though, but there's one in the classifieds for 600.

you could wait around for a jazz bass to pop up.. fernandes, tokai/greco are pretty good basses for the money.

one thing though.. i think most of sakurai's tone comes from his amp, or at the very least his bass preamp. that's something you're not likely to get at your current price range, but any of the above suggestions will put you somewhere in the region of what he sounds like as long as you eq yourself properly, especially the jazzes.

as always- try before you buy, or at least know what you're buying :)

Yah, I'm not a big fan of yamaha too...

unless you get the TRB series..hahaha! =)

Squier or ibanez would be good.

heeh thanks for for the help guys...

now my mind is thinking of having the ibanez BTB200

I'm never quite a big fan of ibanez since they no longer make basses like they did during the glory years of the 90s. At that time, ibanez was quite the boutique bass maker. However, I feel that you will like the BTB200 more than any entry-level yamahas. 24 frets and a 35 scale neck should allow you a wide range sonically. Most of all, have fun with your bass regardless of what you get. :)

along the way, there's an obvious shift in the company's commercial ideals, ardent fans like us regret their every move of course.

nevertheless, the current SR basses are replicating the slimmer neck profiles of the '80s as this era of ibanez guitars/ basses were the epitome of the company's craftsmanship.

for some very decent, deep tones on a budget, do look out for OLP's MM2...

I think the budget u have, u cant get anywhere near sakurai...
I own a TRB myself.. it's still not anywhere near tat sound.. it's really too high end already.

My advice is to get a TRB... if u can afford it.. they are versatile and they cut thru better..
I used to be an ibanez user for years... but it gave me alot of neck-warping problems... cos the neck is too thin and it's quite hard to switch to other brands cos u'll be too used to not stretching ur fingers... so I wont recommend Ibanez anymore...

i find olps vintage design is nice too, have yet to try them
what do you think abt the new models mm22 & mm32? look good frm the pics

ya, the new models are even better. 2 humbuckers and active electronics and aesthetics are better i think....

well if i were u i will get ibanez , not a big fan of yamaha also because they are like such a huge big company like wanna sell everything. from motorbike to pianos . but if u have more money get a fender lol ;) its like the dope man

i also looking for new bass

HELP

i going to buy a new bass soon

i dont know should i grab a yamaha or ibanez or others

i oso looking for a new bass... i tink OLP is quite a good and decent brand... some of my friends recommended me on getting the squire jazz bass maybe u can keep a look out for tat too.....

Actually I really think with the Yamaha EQ on their basses (not the precision sort of course) and a chorus you can get a tone that (may not be exactly alike but) is quite suiting to the taste in his jazz pieces. That's why I recommended the Yamaha in my previous post. I believe it'll be more suiting than an ibanez anyway... Tony Kanal has also made good the sound of a normal Yamaha! Ha ha of course slap tone will be a different matter.
