Help with tone.

Hey. Have a OLP stingray copy bass. It sounds pretty sick on the low E, however the high strings just aren't getting picked up properly, not that the pickup has gone screwy or something. It's just that this copy of musicman stingray doesn't have as powerful a humbucker as the original musicman. However, can i use some pedal, like a compressor or something to flatten the sounds so my treble can be as loud and as kickass as my E string? require it for a gig in orchard road soon.

I'm assuming your problem is a drop in volume for the ADG strings in relation to your E string

i had a similar problem with my Pbass. Raising the polepieces in your pickups will help, but i have no experience with olps/stingrays/humbuckers, so i'm not sure how difficult is it to adjust that of a dual coil.

An EQ would work better than a compressor, to boost your higher frequencies. Might be your strings too, changing it might help.

I have the OLP mm3 and the similar problem is across most, if not all the OLP basses.

The solution I went for was to swap out the electronics. In specific, the pots(tone especially) and pickup(s). Google for mods

Oh. thanks. hmmm... as in what mods specifically? changing the pickups is not one of the choices right? i use the bass amp's eq to lower bass and boost the treble and mid but the tone gets comprimised and sounds severely pain in the arse style of bass sound..

hi bro, sumthing to share.

Raising of pole pieces is ok however you need to pay close attention to them coz once over expose, they are very prone to rust. In my case, i will position the pole pieces to be at the same level as the housing. Instead of raising the pole piece why not take a look on your right hand technique. Are you a hard hitting player (Do you tend to play hard with your fingers? coz if you happen to be one, my advise is to change the habit as you cannot balance the sound if you go on full max with your fingers), are the strings correctly aligned/setup? - Are the strings evenly set etc.... . If all of that doesnt work, get a compressor. You can use it to balance up the tone(Especially if youre into bass slapping and all that stuff). I might be wrong on this but from what I've experimented, it works for me. The things is that what works for me might not have the same effect on you.
You have to experiment and try to see which techniques suits or work for you bro.

try this: raise the pickup (NOT the polepieces) on the treble side and lower your action... a good setup can go a long way in fixing some problems on bass/guitars.

Maybe you can try to install onboard preamp. EmGs VMC- variable mid control to boost your mids.. You are able to boost or cut the frequency range. Davis Guitar sellin yeah.
