Hi, I'm new to digital pianos and stuff. I have been offered a Roland RD150, second hand for the range of 800-1000, inclusive of keystand and pedal.

Would appreciate if someone could enlighten me, with his experience, on this kinda of digital piano and whether it is worth the money? With my lack of experience, I cannot judge whether the price quoted for a 2nd hand piano of this category is deserving or not. Also, what do one look out for when buying a second hand digital piano? Pretty urgent! Thanks!

Is the roland RD150 good for a beginner? I'm buying it for someone who's trying to pick up piano.

sgtpepper got a good price. $1000 is too expensive. RD150 is already superceded by RD300SX.

If sgtpepper is using a softbag with the keyboard (since he is selling it), you have to REALLY check the condition of the keyboard. RD150 is not light. Moving it around too much on a softbag can potentially cause knocks and damage. The main thing to check will be the keys. Make sure they are still sensitive and responsive. You much check EVERY key.

Note that the RD150 has no build-in speakers. So you'll need external speakers.

RD150 is OK for a beginner. Although if the person is serious about learning piano, getting a piano is the best. But if the person is unsure and wants to try out first, it is a good option. I purchased one for my church and I've been using that for years.

I have the same rock bag sgtpepper have for my 88 key synth.
Its very durable and heavily padded. :D
I got it cos hard case for 88 keys is simply too bulky... even if u drive. 8O

how long has the RD150 been introduced into the market? What was it's starting price in the market?

so i suppose even if I could bargain down to 800 min, its still not worth it, even if the condition is good?

Thanks so much for all the help rendered!!

RD-150 is at least 4 years old now. i think it was 1.5-2k at that time.

u'll be better off with a brand new yamaha p70 for the same money.

$800 is not low enough for a second hand RD150 that's no longer in production. Yes, it is about 5 years old (it arrived in the market around early 2002). I agree with iansoh. one of the P series would be better. However, if you can get it at $500 from sgtpepper, then it is worth consideration provided it is in good working condition.

oh yes, for a digital piano less than $800 is very good deal.

10 years ago, a digital piano costs at least $2000,
now with technology you can get from $1000 - 1500.

I doubt sgtpepper is selling the piano...if you "follow" him, he/she seems to be "promoting" for people selling kybds. Anyway, I think that RD has been sold already...no more in the auction.

Anyway, when it comes to digital pianos, feel of keys is very subjective. Cmusic, like what you play first. Of course, the next consideration is quality, unless you forsee upgrading to something better in the short term. Personally, I really miss the quality build keyboards used to have, particularly with the "low-end" models.

Ok, after much scouting around for 2nd hand gear, I have all but abandoned the option of buying a satisfactory 2nd hand hand digital piano.

I am thus left with 2 options, yamaha's p70 and korg's SP250. Price nothwithstanding, may I ask which is actually better? Are there better models to recommend, keeping in mind that I would like to keep my budget around the SP250's price of 1100 + ...
