Help with choosing Gibson LP

Hi guys, I am looking to buy my first Gibson LP. I know that there are different kinds of LPs and stuff so I wanna know what kinda LP I should get. I normally play in a church setting so I'm looking for a 'church' tone if you will. Thanks!

No such thing as a 'church' tone my friend. If however, you're talking about sounds usually associated with worship music, then a good, clean amp will get you 80% there. Amps like the Vox AC15/AC30 or Fender Deluxe/Twin Reverb(most blackface amps actually) are commonly favoured for such applications.

Regarding your LP-related question though, the Studio or Tribute series are good enough to start off on. The Standard and Traditional series sport slightly better wood selection and electronics. It all depends on your budget really.

i think the crunch sound comes mostly from either the amp or the pedals.

If your budget aint very high, the LPJ is good enough. Just swap out the pickups and you have yourself some good tone. However, bear in mine that the LPJ doesn't have any finishing. Not even lacquer.

If you don't mind spending more, a Lp Standard is good.

cheers !
