so, im going hk in dec, and im looking to get myself a godin ACS. or multiac at tomlee. they dun come with hard cases and thus may have to purchase one... anyway, is there any procedure when checkin in the guitar? like in a hardcase, upon reaching singapore custom, is it subjected to tax as well? can any of u softies share ur experience? first time purchasing overseas, so wanna be on the 'safe' side. plus, anyone of u shop at tomlee before? hows the experience? better than sweelee?

I'm Currently shopping around in HK at the moment. Been to Ma on Shan, Wan Chai, Tsim Sha Tsui's tomlee.
The staffs there are quite helpful. In terms of letting you try out the guitars, talking to you about the gears they have.
But Tomlee seems to have monopolized the hong kong market. Prices are not that sure.

I'm Trying to get a Black AMerican Strats at 11k HKD as well. I wonder is it actually worth it too instead.

Hey bro, do u mind helping me check out the price of the acs and multiac when ur ard the area?? And if they sell the hardcase? Many thanks. Tom lee replied my email but they diverted me to calling their main branch instead, so technically the reply was useless. Enjoy ur day in hk bro,

one thing I'd like to point out is that you wont be able to fly with your guitar as carry on. This is not a Singapore Airlines issue (because you sure can fly TO Hong Kong with it as carry on) but the Airport Authority in HK does not allow guitars as carry on.
(I've only done this with a soft gig bag, not a hardcase).
You can have it tagged at check-in and carry it to the gate, but upon boarding they will take it and put it in the hold with all the baby strollers. You have to wait upon disembarkation to get your guitar back at the door of the plane with all the mums and dads waiting for their baby strollers.
I'd opt for a very rugged hardcase or flight case if you can find one (check ahead if you can source an SKB case in HK). detune the strings, make sure the neck is protected, get a fret protector (plastic sheet between the strings and frets) and tons of Silica Gel packs to stuff in the case (absorb the condensation). Also leave the guitar to settle to the ambient temperature in Singapore for a while before you tension up the strings again.
Are you sure you can get a good deal in HK? I haven't seen prices that favorable there.
Good luck!

Thanks for ur valuable input. Btw I'm flying Cathay , so does the situation changes significantly? They added in their website that musical instruments are not allow on board so I'm unsure... I'm hoping the price would be favourable... In ranking, the prices are kinda absurd. And the shop owners have attitude problems... But that's just not the only factor of why I'm goin there to buy

From what I understand, the problem is not the airline. SQ let's me fly with guitars from Singapore to anywhere. I have flown guitars back to Singapore from Indonesia, Thailand, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
The problem is Hong Kong Airport Authority. They control boarding security and they are the authority that tells SQ they cannot allow guitars onboard. In theory, Cathay will give you the same answer. Checking guitars in as baggage is not such a bad option as long as you have a flight case and prepare the guitar for flight.
The final option is to buy your guitar a seat on the plane. Surprisingly, they allow guitars onboard, IF YOU PAY...
