Hi softies!
I encountered this problem yesterday.
My amp is less den a month old. Ok,
first time i crank past 12oclock since
im home alone. I was at Low power.
When i switched to Standby den to
HIGH power mode, it makes a POP
sound. When im at the HIGH power
mode, the volume dead. Even at full
volume, it doesnt hurt my ears! So
soft and the gain all disappear! I tot
its the tubes blow so i swapped with
the stock tubes but its still the same!
On the edge of trashing the amp, i tried
one last time all at FULL volume and
played my guitar. Out of a sudden, the
volume popped and i get the worst
shock of the year! Now its ok but have
a crackling kind of sound from the speaker.
Anyone know why?

Sounds like one of the tubes is loose. Play at a softer volume, then try to wiggle each tube towards the socket. Please wear some sort of glove or protection because the tubes are hot!

Can be. But i swapped the tubes and
ensure its tight. Can it be the speaker?
Its new JJ tubes. But its ok now... Abit
scared sia. Tot sumting blow or what...

did you let the tubes warm up for a few minutes in standby mode everytime you play before you switch the speakers on?

Yupz. I always turn to standby
mode and setup my guitar connect
cable to pedal all before turning the
amp on. Same goes to shutting it
down. I put to standby mode den off
it.

yeah you can change all the components to better ones, but very pointless. If you wanna mod something, change the transformers

will cost 200-300 bucks. Components overhaul not cheap also. But changing transformers will drastically improve your tone. Check out mercury magnetics.

dude, amp's more important than your pedal. But because of all the raves about the diff pedals nowadays, people tend to overlook how important an amp is. Without out a good base tone, no matter what pedals you put in front of the amp, it'll still sound like shit. So if I were you I'd invest in the transformers.

This is also why I prefer using amp distortion/drive and invested in a Laney Ironheart

Ouch. I think i just get a new
pedal with that $.

Did you buy it from Davis?

If its less than a month old as you said, it should still be under warranty. I'd bring it to them to have it checked if I were you.

And yes, +1 to the Ironheart. Even now, its not just your amp but the cab and speakers also make a huge difference. The only speakers I'd use are either Celestion V30s or Greenbacks or the Eminence Red Fang.... those are tried tested and proven beyond any doubts.

If I had a 4x12 I might even mix in some webers or scumbacks just for good measure.

Agreed. Love those speakers. You wouldn't believe the difference in tone when I swapped out the speakers in my Ironheart.

What speakers and cab are you using at the moment?

I just got Goose to swap out my Blackstar 1x12 cab's stock celestion seventy-80 speaker with a vintage 30. Even he commented that the funnel and magnet of the v30 is much sturdier and heavier compared to the seventy 80 which seems to be of a lower quality build in comparison. The cab I'm using is also made of birch ply btw.

Another thing, i wanna change the tubes to
Tung sol's 12ax7 and Tung Sol EL34B.
Maybe Celestion Vintage 30 speaker...
Any comments? It seems to me that this
amp is abit too bassy. Need help from other
VHT Special 6 ultra combo users. =>
