what are my options for this kinda connection

eg i have 3 or so guitars i wanna jack into the same amp with only 1 input...

get a mixer? or is there signal combiner thing?

if so, what are they called and what brands are good?

perhaps you can get an A/B line selector. Since you've got 3 guitars, you might wanna need 2 pieces of A/B boxes. What they do is they've got 2 inputs, and stomping them will select input.

This way, you can plug the guitar as follows :

Guitar 1->
Line selector -> Efx chain -> amp .
Guitar 2->

Anyway why do you want to use so many guitars?

A Boss Line Selector will be a good start. Costs about $100ish I think.

Wow you know what. If you plug 3 guitars inputs into a single amp. I'm not sure it'll hold. A speaker is a speaker, you know.

You could plug into a computer too. Then you can have 2 guitars in one amp (which won't sound as bad as with 3, it's even better if you have eq/multieffects/mixers) and one guitar plugged into the computer. You can buy the cable with the right jacks at luther's or something.

I dun encourage you to do that. A guitar amp is really made for one guitar only .... A/B boxes is still permissible but it will push the amp to it's limits. Playing 3 guitars with one input might just blow your amp ... or should i say that is highly possible. You should still stick to 3 seperate amps.

I think the safest bet is using mixer.

I tried using Y cable (or whatever you call it, the function is combining 2 input), and direct to amp, one of the guitar will overpower the other.

i see... so getting a mixer is better? suppose my friend's com's speaker sux...

Hahaha then I'm not too sure. All depends on your own preferences.

(How about going acoustic? -_-)

Beez uses something for it... he has this rectangular box where there's 4 inputs and 1 output... dunno whats it called gotta ask him...

when we use that during lessons, the sound coming from his crate amp when both of use play doesn't sound distorted leh...

maybe its some kinda compressor which limits the total input current? is there such a thing?

Amps don't blow that easily. However, if the 3 different guitars are using vastly different pickups, ie HB and single, you will have a hard time getting a balanced sound. For that you will have to use a mixer.

And the other thing is that it only works if you are in clean. if u use the built in distortion, anything more than a single guitar sounds horrid. But if you run two guitars into seperate distortion and run that into your amp with the amp on clean it will still sound okae.

ah.. i see.. yeah beez used a micro mixer... lol 4 inputs... and theres only a knob for each input - volume

yep... the amp is set to clean and each individual guitar uses its own dist box... very nice... it sounds completely normal with 2 guitars... haven't tried 3...

thx guys!
