I finally saved enough and am ready to get a pair of monitor speakers.
Yamaha having sale so HS80 is going for 425
KRK RP5 is going for 450 (lowest i can find)

My criteria is
1) flat response
2) reliable

Thanks!

I'd say the HS80s... but that's mainly because I'm partial to Yamaha monitors 8) Seriously though, they are a pretty good set. Go down and take a listen; that's the best way you'll know.

I dunno how to listen for flat response, truthfully... just have to depend on the guys on this forum. Right now I'm veering towards the yamaha coz it's 25 bucks cheaper la..

Crap.. the yamaha price is for one individual speaker... what an idiot i am... guess that leaves me with the krks. :lol

Monitors

I've read up about the Samson Resolv 50a...active 50W monitors and seems to have rather good reviews. They're going for like 350 a pair from swee lee...not sure how good are they cos I don't have a chance to actually try it. Anyone?

Don't limit yourself too much becos of price... nearfield monitors are something you can only buy once..
You can check out the Yamaha MSP3s, they are around your budget. Other than that, you can also go for Alesis monitors, heard they are cheap and good...

lppier, since you have set aside a budget, i suggest that you research on all the monitors within your budget. then go and test them out.

don worry about the flat response part. if it sounds good to you, it will be good for you.

as long as you understand what you are listening to, flat or not does not matter.
