Hey softies, i've bought a set of Tama Iron Cobra Double Pedals recently, but i've been having problems with the adjustments and everything. I've tried nearly everything but i still can't get the pedal to loosen up abit so i can make quicker motions and its either too springy or non-responsive.

ALSO

I need advice on what cymbals are good for playing Rock in general.
(metal,alternative,punk)etc.

Thanks!

I dunno izzit me but I find it faster to play when the spring tension is very high. Ie, the pedal comes back as fast as possible. Mine is tightened way up and the pedals adjusted so that the travel of the beater to the head is not too far away but also not so near that it won't be able to build up enough power. I've also moved both counter weights all the way up for more power. Also, i find sitting up high (when ur feet are on the pedals, your knees are at less than a 90 degree angle) helps with speed and power. Just my $0.02. Your mileage might vary.

As for cymbals, it's hard to recommend cos one man's meat is another man's poison. Go to the shops and try them out for yourself to see what you personally like. I like Sabian HHX for their cutting power. The AAX series isn't too bad either. But that's just me. Anyway, i play metal.

metal needs bright, powerful and definately cutting and loud..

so b8 is a bit mellow but it's brightness prevails..

i have'nt tried the b8pro and sonix.. u may try those too..

or the aax and aa metal-x suggest the name that it's for that kinda genre so yeah..

there are other brands apart from sabian, like paiste rude.. and such.. so yeah do explore.

THANKS guys fer the feedback! I tried adjusting the tension all the way up but whoa it was really hard playing that way haha. Oh well looks like i gotta keep trying and trying. As for the cymbals...well i did check it out, I think the Meinl Amun is great and Dark Custom K's seem like a good base for crashes.

If the Zildjian Zs are too heavy. Go with the A Custom MEDIUM crashes. they cost a bomb but are extremely loud and bright. another alternative would be the Paiste Sig Full crashes. You basically want heavier cymbals. if you get a chance, the UFIP bionic series can be quite cool

u shd adjsut ur cobras to a point where its at least steady when it comes to single pedalling, no point making it too smooth or ull either lose control when on single pedal or ull become too reliable on the speed of the cobras
i use pearl eliminators and i practice my dbl pedals at an adjustment that is steady for single pedalling, but i tried cobras at studios before and they are great for quick dbl pdl bursts but when it comes to single pedalling its like trying to control jelly

for cymbals you gotta state ur budget man, assuming u hav a decent budget
i personally think the sabian vault crashes are great for anything
for ur "loud" genres invest in a pair of cutting hats like the aax stage hats
for a ride i would go for the a custom ping ride, moderately bright and dam good defintion
k customs i feel wouldnt cut tru the loud mix quite right unless u go into the hybrid series, whose splashes are the bomb, and the ride too

Sig Full Crash? Nah not heavy enuff. Go for the Power crashes. Sig Full not recommended for heavier playing, its awesome though.

Hmm, okay i'll take that into consideration. I thought the power crashes were good and the AAX hats were awesome! Btw, u think i shd pay around 250 or less for a A custom 16' Fast crash? i'm not sure if it's worthit.

its an ok price, probably can get it ard that price brand new from yamaha with membership discount

250 can get u gd stuff at the sweelee sale
and once in a while there are K custom dark crashes which go at that price 2nd hand

once in a blue moon only u can see such prices for K customs in singapore..

anyway why u need K customs? they don't really stand out for playing ur kinda music and not that cutting enough..

get a customs, they're loud and cutting, too loud!

k thanks for repeating what i said

and once in a while there are K custom dark crashes which go at that price 2nd hand

k customs i feel wouldnt cut tru the loud mix

not saying he nds K's, to answer his question, just using the price as a comparison cuz obviously k customs cost more than a customs when comparing same dimensions and conditions la

for metal playing i think CHINAs are important haha, i love chinas cos they provide the uber explosive sound!

anyway speaking of double pedals.. i have a pair of pear velocity but i find that their beaters are pretty heavy.. maybe due to the fact that they are double sided beaters.. kinda prefer beaters like those of cobras.. wonder if its possible to buy the beaters and switch them?

u can buy the beaters at ranking.....
its similar to the ic's but its gibraltar
very good...cost abt 20 bucks f0r 1....

oooh ok haha, looks like i've got alot to learn :/ Y'know i've been playing drums for like what, 3 years and then NOW i finally get my own drumset so i'm really gong about all the technical aspects. Last time its just... wah dude your set very nice, then play.

btw, A custom? i think i can get 1 at 250, 16" A Crash brilliant finish. good bo?

a custom i like the 18" much more than the 16, and with that money, imo the sabian vault crash is a much butter buy

sabian vaults are priced in the range of aax series so yeah can check with SL about that..

as for A customs, i'd go for 17" and 18" ones..

but many have chosen vaults over A customs as they are alort more giving to what they need sound than the a customs...

saw a post of a guy using all K for his set and an exception using a vault crash and not using a a customs...

btw, 250 can get vault first hand meh?? also i don't mind 16" 250 for A custom crash?? can get ah?

sweelee sale la haha, lower than 250 for 17" from what i remember... cuz i rmbr i bought mine 2nd hand for 250+ then i knew that it was cheaper at sweelee sale so i was like dam
