HELP! Gibson VS Epiphone?

Hey Softies!

Im choosing to either buy the Gibson Les Paul Studio or Epiphone Les Paul 1960 Tribute guitar!

Can u guys help me out?

What are you looking at in the guitar? In the end the feel matters. You should go and try both, see which you are more comfortable with.

I would always rather buy a high end epiphone than a low end Gibson IMO, that Epi is cool though, looks better than no binding les paul studio

for me personally... i see which one has the better/heavier acoustic and tone..... if there is not a diff(i know got diff one XD anywayz) i would go for gibby(the ones with bindings) woohoo...but the studios dont have binding bummer.... Epiphone wins cause got binding XD!!!! what i would die for to get another les paul(lemon tea'ed color thingy with a pick guard XD)

I always thought the Les Paul studios looked a little bland. Other guitars like my Ibanez look fine without the bling, but the Les Pauls just look empty without it. I'd prefer the Epiphone based on the looks.

Also, I've been impressed by Epiphones so I can't say that they suck. I find the MIK Epi Les Pauls comparable to the authentic Gibbie (yes, I've played both and on the same day) and the only difference was that the Epi had a thicker finishing and was a bit lighter in weight (actually, it was quite a bit lighter). I liked them both equally but I favour the Epi because it cost so much less, is not so bad on the back, yet rivals the Gibbie in other aspects.

Still, nothing beats playing them in person so I'd agree with JumpinJellybean on trying them both out in person if you haven't done so already.

The specs for the tribute model actually looks good. However, we've got to remember the fact that the 2 guitars have the same wood but different origins.

always, always try instruments in person & go with the one you like.

regardless of what each guitar promises (commanding brand name/ attractive tribute specs/ etc.) if it doesn't click with you, you should avoid it.

I think you'd be better off getting a high end epiphone... No offence to the Gibson LP studio...

But in the end it's only a matter of which guitar suits you better in terms of playability.

If you're getting the Epiphone Tribute, check out the trans black version - they look killer with chrome hardware.

i would go for gibson studio with the classic 60 neck version...

may i ask how much is a gibson lespaul studio? and what is the epiphone lespaul 1960 tribute price?

ok i have checked the price with gibson com
it makes more sense to go with gibson lespaul since its cheaper than epiphone

are u sure? It cant be tht the Epiphone is much more expensive than the Gibson. I checked it and the Gibson costs around 1.8k while the Epi costs arnd 1.4k

Well... the Gibson is a low-end model and the Epiphone is a high-end model. So perhaps the prices aren't too surprising.

mmatin: im not sure that was why i asked earlier, price i checked was Gibson msrp at Gibson website
but from gc website they range from $799(satin ebony, faded brown/cherry) & 1.1k-1.3k(for other studios)

Personally I'd take the gibson. I feel that the Studios are one of the most underrated range of Gibson and in turn the standards are those that are forever overpriced.

Tonal wise is an entirely diff argument altogether as that would depend on the individual's ears.

True there are many bad gibsons out there in the market QC dropping, paint stripping only resulting to see a bad neck etc.. but hey, thats just my preference feel free to disagree.

Buy an Epiphone, throw out the electronics, put in an RS kit, get a new nut, new bridge and you're ready to rock.

I'm believe an Epiphone can sound truly amazing. But, thats up to the player. So less talky more practice.

ok lets lay out the so called "tribute features" with "everything that they could think of"(as claimed by Dr. Epiphone),
'57 classics, fat neck, coil tapping(push pull pots), locking bridge, Grover tuners, strap locks? who is this guy kidding? lolxxx
