Hi! I've been getting quite interested in electronic music lately and have been wanting to create my own, but i have absolutely no idea where to start. Could i have some advice on what gear and skills i need to get started? thanks.

First, you will need to get your hands on softwares like fl studio, reason, ableton live etc. play around and understand how these digital workstation works(remember youtube is your best friend). then you would also need to get a midi controller to control parameters in your software...

I'd recommend picking up a demo of Ableton Live. It's traditionally used as a DJing platform but has all the tools you could possibly need to get started producing.

The interactive tutorials and lessons you go through when you first use it help you to get up and running quickly.

It also has one of the best time stretching algorithms too so when you're working with loops (which you most likely will to start with) it will make your life very easy.

Ableton will get you up and running but you'll probably find yourself move to a dedicated sequencer like Cubase or Logic (if you're on a Mac) in time.

You'll also need to get an audio interface (get a fast connection like usb 2.0 or firewire) and monitors. Don't skimp on the monitors, they're the most important part. Get a pair with the flatest frequency response you can afford so what you hear is real, not enhanced like hi-fi speakers will.

I hope this helps.
