Killer topic !
Here're some of my favourite "heavy" moments in metal :
1. The breakdown on Pantera's "Domination" off Cowboys from Hell. If ever a piece of music could make you want to stomp people's faces in, this would be it.
2. The intro to Lamb of God's "Black Label".
3. The ultra-heavy, rhino-on-the-rampage grind of Morbid Angel's "God of Emptiness"
4. Tom Araya's blood-curdling scream on "Angel of Death"
5. Machine Head. Davidian. 'Nuff said. "Let freedom ring with a shotgun blaaaaaaaasssst !"
6. Go listen to "1000 eyes" on Death's Symbolic album. Pay close attention to the duration of the song. At exactly 2:14, listen closely. Pick your jaws off the floor.
respect. *bows*
7. Bruce Dickinson's vocal performance on the title track of his debut with Iron Maiden. Surreal.
8. Fredrik Thordendal's 8-string carnage on "New Millennium Cyanide Christ".
9. Dave Mustaine's bile-spewing, clenched teeth vocal laceration on Rust in Peace.
10. The gentle chiming intro to "Battery" off Master of Puppets before the main riff strikes you square between the eyes like a battering ram.
More as I think of them !
