I love the book...
Constantine is decent lah... by no means, excellent though. It has been, of course, quite removed from its original premises of a blond Englishman who looks like Sting. Overall, it was still fun but there were too many CGI scenes tt killed the greater sense of enjoyment for me. The ending was definitely a cut better than most Hollywood endings.
If those folks who are interested in movies who explore the theme of Heaven and Hell, the eterna battle and stuff like this, check out Hal Hartley's 60 min film, "The Book Of Life" at
www.possiblefilms.com/projects/book_of_life/. Watched it back in the Singapore Film Fest in 1999. The only audience I have seen so engaged while watching movies other than the "Book Of Life" audience was the one watching The Two Towers... Most folks gave the film a standing ovation even though the director wasn't present.
The synosis:
Jesus (Martin Donovan) shows up in New York on the last day of the century with his attractive young assistant, Magdalene (singer P.J. Harvey). An intelligent, well-dressed and soft-spoken man, he is nevertheless a double agent. Sent by his father to perform the Last Judgment and initiate the end of the world, Jesus is having second thoughts. He does not wish to destroy the world and brings down upon himself the violent wrath of God, the Devil, and human beings all at once.
