Guitarpicks

Hey i am a newbie in guitar and I've seen many different guitar picks , thickness and triangular . Can anyone tell me the difference between the different mm and shapes???

I'm no expert so correct me if I'm wrong

Picks come in a variety of thicknesses because of the demands of different string gauges, playing techniques and the type of sound they produce.

For example a heavy metal guitarist using a thicker string gauge will usually prefer a quite thick pick to be in control of the playing and to produce that truly heavy sound.
And a thin sharp tipped pick produces a sound with a pointy attack and a "click" or "flapping" sound, also known as pick noise, while a thicker pick with a round edge will produce a rounder sound with not so much attack and pick noise.

All the best :)

The harder the pick the more control you have when it comes to picking individual notes. You'd have more control when it comes to picking dynamics. Thinner picks are more suited for soft strumming to compliment singing or backing a lead guitar. all picks will make the guitar sound different so try em all.

eh not really...thick picks will produce a pick chirp. as with the most complaints with the thicker v-picks of up to 3mm and thicker. thin picks dun produce pick chirps. or if u're talking abt something else then pardon me lol

then what about triangular picks , do the material matter??? and wats the most common one beginners choose???

just try the diff picks, hear the sound and buy the one u like the sound best to you

Triangular picks have an advantage as they are cost-effective. When one point wears out, there are two more identical ones for you to use. The only issue is that they are big. But they do feel more planted than the traditional tear-drop / wedge shaped pick. If you do a lot of strumming, I recommend thinner, more flexible picks. If you do lots of soloing, then I'd recommend very thick, small, sharp-tipped picks.

Beginners tend to use the traditional tear-drop pick, usually a medium (0.7-0.8mm), those are very good for strumming, but are also very versatile.

alright- guitar picks coming your way. there's no standard applicaiton when it comes to pics, we use what works for us. i favour the 3mm thick Stubby picks which others say are for bass but that's rubbish of course. take not of the following when choosing yours:

*thickness
*shape
*grip profile

where do recommend buying picks , cos i went to the yamaha shop at plaze sing and they only have three picks while the one at compass point has alot but they feel powdery unlike my friend's

The powdery stuff prolongs the time ur thumb takes to produce enough sweat to make the pick slippery so it actually promotes grip. Of course there are other ways to promote grip like holes or engravings. Other places to buy picks are basement 1 of peninsular

There are ALOT of different brands, types of picks sold at peninsula plaza.
The picks that feel powdery are usually made of the same material which is Duralin/Delrin/Acetyl/Tortex.
The pick that your friend used might be worn in so the powder is gone or its made of other material such as Nylon or celluloid

Have fun with your guitar journey!

haha, juz buy a bunch of picks, like 5-7 of varies sizes and shape, try all of them for some time, slowly eliminate those that u dont feel comfortable using. it should cost u about $10? but its worth it la, to search for ur own suitable pick
