hi fellow softies, i intend to get my guitar to be setup at Standardvalue, i was wondering if anyone has done it before and how was the workmanship like and also the price wise is it value for money.Only experience i had with Standard value was a purchase of their guitar, service wise it was excellent as mike was a very friendly and approachable guy, he let me tried on the guitars for as long as i could. Thanks :)

Hi there, I got my RG370 set up by Mike. I would say it is money well spent. His workmanship is excellent and he will bother to explain in detail what he has done to your guitar. He will also adjust the string height to your liking and let you test out your guitar before paying him. Service wise, I think it is valued for money.

yeah i second that, had a very basic set up and mike from SV was very patient asking me about my prefered action, feel, gague etc.

could have done a better job on the nut but then again for a free setup of a sub $300 instrument, i would have to say that this guy stands behind his store 100% with much much better service than the old boys (beez excluded)

Thanks all!

Mike's work is great.....just got back my guitar from him....i actually sent in the guitar for a set up....but he noticed quite a few of my frets were not level (Bad refret from another guit shop).....so he helped me re level it... and now it looks like brand new man.......haha.....
oh ya...be sure to try his modded BD-2....gd stuff....

Mike's work is good. He can turn a simple guitar into an axe and a great guitar to top-notch excellent axe. You guys should check out his products physically, amazing price and quality. Computer problems anyone? Thumbs up for Mike.

Yo!! let me just share my personal experience in seeing MIKE from standard value in action.

I sent my BASS to change the PUPs 2 EMG... Mike did a wonderful job in installing the PUPs, his soldering and re-wiring is neatly done and I havent had any problems with the ports, PUPs or anything. He also did a wonderful job with setting up the height of the strings according to my playing style and preferance. I was so impressed with his work that I sent in my guitar a week later for a full re-wiring and set-up.

His prices are reasonable and he is friendly with the customers.. he explains to you in detail what he is doing to your axe and also gives good reccomendation on how to improve your sound and tone. He is also a really skillfull guitarist...

Anyway MIKE, if youre reading this... KUDOS to you bro.. will see you again to see if you can MOD my chorus..hahaha..

I second all the replies so far.........all the friends i recommended him to have all come outta his shop with smiles on their faces and lighter than planned wallets........lotsa droolworthy stuff down there on display. I once saw him do a heavy mod job on a Timbre strat. Meticulously done, took nearly 3 hrs bcos the owner tested it several times with a few problems but Mike always was on hand to sort them out. Has a great time talking with him abt guitars and coms, he's extremely knowledgable abt both. Kudos to him for setting up such a customer friendly business. Reasonable prices, killer gear, great workmanship, super-friendly service, waddaya gotta do but love it?

Does he set up acoustic guitar too?
My 2 years old acoustic action seen to be too high even i have trim the saddle to the max.
How much do they charge?
My guitar is not those high end type, it only cost around 240

Just setup my guitar at standard value ... its really a well done job, and i really mean it ... i setup my current guitar with other guys and i thought my string height is already the lowest ... but after mike set up for me ... its really low and theres no string buzz at all ... kudo to MIKE's work, will pe my permanent guitar setup place ...

ps: Mike change place to city hall man , wooodland is VERYYYYYYYYYY FARRRRRRRRR almost 1 hour finding his place ... but worth the visit

If there's a better place for him to move to, I'd say central (Ang Mo Kio, etc) so its accessible to EVERYONE. Its in a rather ulu place here in Marsiling...

I just got my Ibanez set-up by Mike for 10-46s and DGCFAD tuning, and guess what, he did it in like half an hour and overall charge (including the strings) was $47.

It was professionally done. He obviously has lots of experience and I could see that he was being meticulous and made no mistakes. For no extra charge Mike also oiled my fretboard, and he did everything, from the pickup height to the truss rod adjustment, and in the end when I got to try it, I was really pleased. My guitar was so much easier to play after that, since all my switching between drop D and standard E prior to set-up had caused the neck to subtly warp a bit.

And tonewise, it KICKS ASS! It sounds twice the guitar it was before. I can't imagine how powerful its gonna sound with 11s or even 13s.

So if you want professional set-up that you can trust, SV is the way to go.

Cheers!

Im planning to send my guitar for a general setup, checking of wiring and change of switch. Does anybody know if i have to leave my guitar overnight or can it be done on the spot at SV?
